Great. What about adding a lame 3.90.3 compile (+ modified version)?
Have you already registered the rep at apt-get.org? dev0 -------------------- "To understand me, you'll have to swallow a world." Or maybe your words.

i already submitted the repository to apt-get.org. it'll be maybe a day before it is recognized.
UPDATE: i just compiled (finally) xmms-aacplugin and it is available at the server now. lame is already packaged (albeit 3.93) by christian marillat, so i don't plan on packaging it, no later -------------------- RareWares/Debian :: http://www.rarewares.org/debian.html

I know marillat's xmms packages, but a compile of the stable HA.org approved 3.90.3 version would give me some peace of mind...

Is there a command line player like mpg123/ogg123 for AAC as well ? Or is the only way the sending of the output stream of faad to the audio device ?

UPDATE: FAAC, FAAD2, LAME
faac has been packaged for 1.18 (props go to knik, go to audiocoding.com for changes) faad2 has been packaged more cleanly. if problems arise, install libfaad2-0 BEFORE libfaad2-dev also, as requested (and for pleasure...) the recommended lame compile has been packaged and functioning quite remarkably (mp3rtp is absent from lame-extras, see source for an explanation). although, due to a hairy dependency issue with christian marillat's packages that depend on lame 3.93, i've hacked my debian compile for 3.99.90.3 both in package version, and the ACTUAL BINARY will use 3.99.90.3. this seems crappy to me, but it is the best way i could derive -- especially when compiling your own software against lame (which some need >=3.92). thoughts, recommendations, or blatant outrage is welcome - but if you offer no solution, (insert something duragatory here!) also, the top post will be edited to reflect changes later -------------------- RareWares/Debian :: http://www.rarewares.org/debian.html

Shouldn't it be possible to compile/package lame 3.90.3 as ha-lame or something like that, so no compatibility issues arise (like not_lame does) and you can use both versions at the same time?

this is a possibility - and one i considered (i originally packaged it as lame-ha 3.90.3, etc.)
however, the shit hits the fan when other programs want to use /usr/bin/lame, and you can't have two programs in the same binary other options are: 1. install 3.90.3 into /usr/local/... 2. rename the actual built files i.e. /usr/bin/lame-ha option 1 is actually realistic, but then $PATH gets all screwed up and to envoke any one version would be absolute path nonsense. i am content in my hackerdom, although it seems ugly - it is functional. if someone actually encounters a problem (i haven't yet) then yes, things will need to be changed. later -------------------- RareWares/Debian :: http://www.rarewares.org/debian.html

UPDATE: LAMIP, XMMS-AACPLUGIN
lamip and all buildable software has been repackaged, new packages are: . lamip-inputmp3 . lamip-inputaac the xmms aacplugin now has a dynamic candidate. you will need libfaad2-0 (=1.1-0.0) to use this package (i.e. marillat's faad packages) . xmms-aacplugin-shared a static aacplugin (v0.4) is still in the works. later -------------------- RareWares/Debian :: http://www.rarewares.org/debian.html

QUOTE Isn't this exactly what the Debian alternatives system was designed to address? yes, but packaging lame as multiple versions (read alternatives, not different software, just juggling different versions of software) requires collaboration between me and christian marillat to achieve something, that frankly, doesn't seem all that beneficial to me at this point. i have also considered packaging lame as alternative or even diversion. i haven't decided what is best yet, and honestly... i don't see why i would need both versions on my system (3.93 and 3.90.3). how i hacked 3.90.3 hasn't produced any problems yet. (although it is early to be confident). considering that lame is an "illegal" package is quite coincidentally gravy for me, as i really don't need to worry about it - other than it being functional. however, if i (or someone else...) wants to upkeep a completely seperate software package (as would be the case, a la notlame) from 3.90.3 it would be understandable and implementable. if people like the idea of adopting a forked lame package that uses only patches from upstream to keep "lame-ha" at whatever the community supports, then this situation is different entirely. we sort of already do this, but rather subversively. i will see what i can do to make it work more cleanly. ...i am still working on it. and if i come up with a perfect (read=better) plan of attack i will implement it, and/or ask for advice on it. later This post has been edited by xmixahlx: Jul 5 2003, 11:20 -------------------- RareWares/Debian :: http://www.rarewares.org/debian.html

UPDATE: LAME-HA
ok, another bundle of lame packages to test! hooray! packages are: . lame-ha . lame-dev-ha . lame-extras-ha . liblame0-ha straight from the 3.90.3 sources (well, not really... plus some tinkering...) LAME-HA 3.90.3 is completely seperate from LAME 3.93 (or 3.99.90.3 or any other version, i.e. both can be installed, quite independent...). packages are essentially: /usr/bin/lame-ha /usr/bin/mp3x-ha /usr/lib/lame-ha/* /usr/include/lame-ha/* feedback on both lame offerings are VERY encouraged. even if you have something dumb to say, please PM me. later This post has been edited by xmixahlx: Jul 5 2003, 11:42 -------------------- RareWares/Debian :: http://www.rarewares.org/debian.html

UPDATE: FAAD2, XMMS-AACPLUGIN
new faad2 build (1.99.20030707). faad2 v2.0 is (most likely the aacplugin is packaged as "xmms-aacplugin-cvs" and is dependent on these cvs builds of faad2 packages.(dynamic libraries) after 2.0 is released, naming conventions of the xmms-aacplugin will go back to normal read the rarewares-debian text file for updated info: http://pessoal.onda.com.br/rjamorim/debian...arewares-debian packages: . faad2 . libfaad2-0 . libfaad2-dev . xmms-aacplugin-cvs later This post has been edited by xmixahlx: Jul 8 2003, 04:02 -------------------- RareWares/Debian :: http://www.rarewares.org/debian.html

UPDATE: FAAC, FAAD2, LAMIP, LAMIP-INPUTMPC, XMMS-AACPLUGIN-CVS
new faac build from cvs (1.18.20030730). just fixes since 1.18 (and the last cvs snapshot) new faad2 build (1.99.20030730). this build incorporates the newly released sbr code a la menno and his magic. my sources tell me that after testing, faad2 2.0 is close approaching... so test! (EDIT: and i now learn that this sourcetree was later deemed rc1) lamip has had considerable progress. lamip-controldefault, the working ui at this point, has been revamped to actually support all the used-to-be inoperable features. repeat, open, playlist, add, remove, and id3tags all function. the more testers and people with simple yet operable ideas, the faster this is going to develop. INTRODUCING LAMIP-INPUTMPC! i'm excited about this module/plugin. brand spankin new, and minimally functional. XMMS-AACPLUGIN-CVS is severely broken at this point... if you are using these faad2 packages from cvs you might as well remove all aacplugins until a fix is available... work is being done hurriedly to fix it. in the meantime, the lamip aac plugin is working, so go get this from rarewares and/or sourceforge cvs! packages: faad2 libfaad2-0 libfaad2-dev faac libfaac0 libfaac0-dev xmms-aacplugin-cvs lamip lamip-dev lamip-controldefault lamip-inputmpc lamip-inputmp3 LAMIP SCREENSHOT:

new faad2 build, post 2.0rc1 with cvs changes ...xmms-aacplugin is still broken (and xmms-aacplugin-cvs removed until fixed) new faac build, 1.19 beta with cvs changes lamip repackaged to be more modular (does not use dependencies on other lamip packages anymore...) lamip-inputwav updated and NEW PACKAGE, LAMIP-OUTPUTALSA NEWS: k3b from cvs (and alpha cdrtools packages) now supports windows format CUE/WAV combination, but cue2toc is still needed for other situations. later This post has been edited by xmixahlx: Aug 14 2003, 21:43 -------------------- RareWares/Debian :: http://www.rarewares.org/debian.html

UPDATE: LIBVORBIS, XMMS-MP4PLUGIN, XMMS-META-INPUT, FAAC, FAAD2
libvorbis 1.0.0+gt3b1 -- Garf's tuned vorbis libraries have been packaged. xmms-mp4plugin 0.3-0test1 -- this is a plugin for testing, currently it is broken for aac input, but WILL decode sbr/he MP4 input files. (if you are wondering why it handles aac files... fred is going to be merging the mp4/aac plugins...) the xmms-aacplugin is STILL BORKED. xmms-meta-input is a clever little plugin that allows for simple shell scripts to be treated as input plugins. packaged with this is a MONKEY'S AUDIO PLAYBACK PLUGIN (shell script). faac updated to 1.21.1 beta (plus cvs to 20030910) faad2 updated to 2.0.0rc1 (plus cvs to 20030901) more to come... soon (lamip, xmms/aac plugins) later -------------------- RareWares/Debian :: http://www.rarewares.org/debian.html
