Successful ABX of qaac -v256 vs flac

Uploaded sample as requested here.
Vocals seem to have "metallic" or "electronic" tinge to it, the violin(?) as well.

Most noticeable part for me is around 0:05-0:10s in this clip, especially around the "だろう(darou)" part.

It might be interesting to compare with other AAC encoders like Nero, Winamp FhG and FDK.

Agree. Please test these as well.

The thread is rather old, I would suggest a re-check if it still happens with newer versions of qaac and more importantly the apple codec library.

AAC didn't change anything in like 10 years, I'm sure this test will be the same. Don't mistake Apple/iTunes/QuickTime libraries changes with AAC codec changes.

The OP said in the discussion thread that Nero sounds even worse.

AFAICT, the Apple library hasn't changed since 2012-2013

Here's some Fraunhofer encodes (Winamp and fdk) with comparable bitrates, in case the OP, or someone else wants to test.
