I'm interested in working with video in an MP4 container. I have a few questions.
What can i use to mux tracks together? Virtualdubmod doesn't seem to support it. Is it safe to ogg audio in an mp4 container? |

QUOTE (Mike Giacomelli @ Dec 12 2003, 06:05 PM) Is it safe to ogg audio in an mp4 container? It is possible, but it is not safe and definitely not a wise idea. MP4 players expect an AAC stream, at most an MP3 stream. Most of them won't play the audio if they find a vorbis stream there. -------------------- Get up-to-date binaries of Lame, AAC, Vorbis and much more at RareWares:

VirtualdubMod already supports editing of native MPEG4 MKV files, even with AAC audio. The only problem currently is that there is no transmuxer existing as of yet, allowing to put the streams from an MP4 into a MKV file, but Mosu is working on this already.
The reverse, to extract a MKV file after editing into a MP4 could be done already, if the 3ivX guys will cooperate with us and add a nother MEDIASUBTYPE to the allowed input nodes of their MP4 muxer ...... no big deal, we will talk to them after we have the MP4 --> MKV transmuxing working ..... -------------------- Support matroska - the bestest vapourware project ! http://www.matroska.org

QuickTime does a decent job in editing MPEG-4 files. I know Windows users don't like it, but it works

You are aware i was talking about MKV ( = matroska ), and not MOV ? Yes, and that wasn't really what I was (trying to) answer. What I meant was that the answer to "Is it safe to ogg audio in an mp4 container?" is that's what MOV is for. Anyway, if you install 3ivx, QuickTime will happily play advanced streaming profile MP4s, as long as they don't have N-VOP frames (according to 3ivx). I don't know whether they released a QuickTime component for Windows, though. |

well thats not an answer
when muxing xvid or divx5 into .mp4 with 3ivx these files should be 100% spec compliant mp4 files, but qt doesnt handle them (with qpel and b-frames)... and did you get my mail? -------------------- I know, that I know nothing (Socrates)
