Unsubscribing from a topic

Is there any chance that a method of unsubscribing from a topic while viewing that topic could be implemented?  As far as I can see, the only way to unsubscribe at the moment is by going to my subscribed topics list and deleting there.  If there is already some other method I have overlooked I would be grateful if somebody could let me know.

The "Track this topic" link could be changed to a "Unsubscribe from this topic link" for threads that are already subscribed.  At the moment it stays as "Track this topic" for subscribed topics and generates a "You are already subscribed to this topic or forum" error when clicked.

An alternative solution would be to leave the "Track this topic" link but then on the "You are already subscribed to this topic or forum" error page have an unsubscribe link for that topic.

Would either of these be feasible?

Thanks for your hard work on this site.

Same question/suggestion almost eight years later... Maybe I'm missing the link somewhere, but I don't see an easy way to unsubscribe from a topic. The only way I see is from within the user control panel.

There should also be an unsubscribe link in the notification emails that are sent out. This is pretty much just standard practice these days.

It's probably the board software? It's an option on phpBB and vBulletin boards I think. But yes it's a little irritating, as you say, the emails don't have a direct unsubscribe link either.
