Just a quick question (with hopefully a quick answer):
If I take a CD that is 44,100 bits per second, with 16 bit sound and 2 channels then that comes to just over 1378 kbps (correct me if I'm wrong). Yet 320kbps is the highest setting for an mp3 (again, correct me if I'm wrong). It's certainly the highest setting for LAME that I'm aware of. So even the highest quality mp3 is less than a quarter of the size of the original CD. How come they are so small, yet you don't hear any difference? Is there a quick answer to describe how so much information is lost? Thanks. |
