Hmm... It is free now? Great! Then I think you/they(?) might want to update the site a little ...  The main page does say "True Audio is free multimedia software projects community." But neither the [a href="http://www.true-audio.com/analyzer.project]overview page[/url] nor the downloads page mentions anything about it being "freeware". Then, the top link on the overview page leads to THIS page, where it says "Download a FREE trial version", and indicates a purchase price of $45.00. (The heading on that page says version 1.0, but the link {http://www.true-audio.com/ftp/TauAnalyzer-setup.exe} appears to be up-to-date...)

If it is indeed freeware now, it makes me wonder if it is also free of spy/mal/ad-ware?
( please don't be offended by my 'paranoia', I don't mean to be rude    )

Thanks in advance to anyone offering any clarification!

I'm using Windows 2000 SP3 & the program generates a Illegal Instruction error as soon it begins checking the Audio CD.

Maybe i've read help not carefully, but question is: how can I know the percent of assurance when Tau Analyzer says Status=MPEG?

Thanks for the update, ald...

Maybe you can help me figure something out.
In this thread, I posted that I had found three different MoFi Gold UltraDisc CDs that auCDtect can't seem to determine correctly - the song-by-song results are all over the place, and the CDs are finally determined to be MPEG.

So now, I just downloaded Tau Analyzer 1.1 and tested my MoFi UltraDisc-II of Dark Side Of The Moon, and I got the same results:

Could you explain why these CDs are giving auCDtect and Tau Analyzer such trouble?

Thanks,

~esa

Thanks Cosmo and sorry about this. This is an old garbage.
I hope that all of the site pages was updated now.
Order page was removed.

Tau Analyzer have 8 work modes. The bigger mode you set, the faster the program will work but the less quality of graphs and less trusted results you will obtain.
1/1 - all data will be processed. 1/8 - 1/8 of all data will be processed.

As about assurance:  Please look at Help -> Testing results

Thanks for testing this. I think in this case you can to look at the Spectrum and Frequency graphs.. Not all of the disks can be detected correctly. I trust to results of this program if all (or most) tracks gives same results. For automatic analysis of such CD - please wait for the next program updates.

thanks for offering this programm for free now

the app doesn't work as expected here though. whenever I press 'analyze CD' TauA hangs (independant of drive or CD). all other functions like ejecting tray etc work fine.

is there a quick fix for this, is it a known bug, or should I also contact the support?

also, the uninstall feature doesn't work at all (probably because there is no '...uninstall.exe' included).

I too am having problems with this software. I've tried it on two different computers and three different OS's and it didn't run in any of them. On the first computer running XP with SP-1, it locked itself up along with Explorer. I had to press the power button on the computer and shut it down. On the second computer running XP with SP-1 the program crashed when it tried to read the CD. Then I booted up with Windows 2000 with SP-4 and when I tried to run it, it said it couldn't locate gdiplus.dll

Obviously it does work on some sytems but it seem like a poorly written program.

Ald,

You've just dodged Cosmo's question:

It is also free of spy/mal/ad-ware?

I would appreciate if you could come clean on this.

Many thanks,

Triza

at least AdAware doesn't recognize anything.
I don't see a reason why it may contain any spyware ITFP anyway...

Why are you asking about it?  It's free of spy/mal/ad-ware. As you can see, the program is absolutely clean. We has never made such code in our software and we are not going to make it in future.

Thinking about it.. Please enable console. Maybe you can catch some of error messages.

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\True Audio\Analyzer]
"ConsoleEnabled"=dword:00000001

We have tested this program on many different computers (NT4/NT2000/XP) with different SP's and it works without a problems in any of them..
As about gdiplus.dll. Windows NT usage requires installation of the GDI+ package from Microsoft.

hmm... what about the uninstall issue, am I the only one experiencing this?
the program adds a startmenu entry with the option to uninstall, that directs to drive\path-of-app\TauAnalyzer-uninstall.exe.
this file is however not there.

I experience the same. Also program crashes as soon as pressing "Read CD" or "Analyze CD".  No very useful info is produced to post. (I'm on XP sp2, BTW.)

Well, auCDtect is a very nice little tool...

I did now.
it seems that the installer can't handle custum install directories.
if installed to default directory, everthing is propperly installed. but chosing a cutom path results in errors.
default: C:\Program Files\True Audio\Tau Analyzer
cutom:  C:\Program Files\Tau Analyzer

Using default path produced the uninstaller. But enabeling console does nothing different that I can see. All I get  are a "True Audio Analyzer has encountered a problem and needs to close."

This occurs with Windows 2000 SP3, ASPI 4.71.2, it crashes when trying to read from my Lite-On DVD-RW & LG CD-RW.

& I'm not going to download SP4 because this is the only program I have had troubles with.

This may be so obvious as to be perfectly clear to everyone else on the forum, but I'm a little confused: Is Tau Analyzer still able to analyze *.wav files (as auCDtect is able to do), or is it restricted to reading from CDs?

I realize this question could be answered by downloading/installing/trying it, but I'd prefer to wait for the promised "update" before doing so.

  Thank you!
