Thanks, john33!

Btw, to make it short, Aoyumi's tuning in b4 is basically for -q ... to -q ... ?
I just wanna know about this...

Excellent job, Aoyumi!

Thanks for compiles, John33!

I think it is time to do some testing…

Anyway, is it OK to use the P3/AMD compile on a Pentium II system?

These compiles work stable on my AMD K6-2 & K7 (win98se,nt4.0) if this helps anyone.

Just a small note on transient blurring: I did not test your encoder nor I had a look at the current source code. But I guess it's a good idea to tell you about the idea I had that does temporal noise shaping.

The portion which blurring produces fundamentally is micro atack, and is the pattern with which long block is used. In order to improve this problem more by the realistic bit rate, together with noise shaping, improvement of block switching is needed. However, I hesitate to improve this from the description about patent in "envelope.c"...

There is some change which influences all bit rates and sampling rates.
Probably, change will be large also especially in it at the low bit rate.

I've tested it myself, but thanks anyway.
(and I think u knew this already... )

Ok, thanks for clearing things up.
I always use the -q 4 setting for local playback.

The aoTuV beta4 was merged with libvorbis1.1.1.
There is a difference from the previous release version, only when the maximum and/or minimum of the bit rate are specified and offered in Quality mode.

I think Aoyumi meant that 1.1.1 was merged with b4, not that b4 has been merged with the Vorbis trunk (chance would be a fine thing!).

As for beta4 (and also beta3) released first, libvorbis1.1.0 is the foundation.
And this version includes change of 1.1.1.

Now available at Rarewares.

These, of course, now include the updates of oggenc2 to 2.6 and oggdropXPd to 1.8.5 for these libraries.

Quick question, how much and what sort of testing would be needed to update the recommended encoder to 1.1.1 based aotuv b4?

Aoyumi, do you have an interest in adding channel coupling to multichannel encoding? its really missing in vorbis

This is not really a useful post, but I just wanted to mention that I am thoroughly impressed with everything Aoyumi has contributed to Ogg Vorbis. Remember that the original aoTuV already won Roberto's latest 128kbps test. And now aoTuV beta 4 has won guruboolez's personal 80kbps test. Awesome work.

I'd just like to chime in with thanks too.  Great work!  It's nice to see this kind of progress in Vorbis.

I second you on that one  . I would guess that would really needs to be done is that there needs to be an some additional submapping tweaks? I think the residue values just need to coupled to or something along those lines for each channel  .

When I try to encode from FLAC files, it fails.

If I toy around with the settings, such as using temp files, then it seems I can get 1 file to encode before failing.

I do not have the test environment of a multichannel. Therefore, I cannot do the work.
Moreover, probably it is fairly serious work.

[{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a]

No that won't work, because of the use of SSE instructions
But the P4 compiles work like a charm on my AMD Athlon64 system
Maybe that fact could be added in the descriptions on rarewares.org or something like:
generic, MMX, SSE, SSE2

I guess the Cpus that are compatible with different compiles can be described the way it is done on the [a href="http://www.moox.ws/tech/mozilla/mdefs.htm]Moox[/url] site with Firefox compiles.
