2) I can't get the plugin work with my own server - it says "error: The requested header was not found". I checked with Ethereal the plugin-server transmission when using the default site but didn't notice anything strange.. could you tell what kind of response the plugin exactly expects to get?

I am dreaming about plugin's version for other players, but starting to think that everyone must use foobar2k, may be this plugin will be a reason for someone :). (also dreaming about console plugin for requesting lyrics).

Perhaps some kind of Poll system, where users can vote for the version they prefer (and an option to download all, the most voted, the latest, etc.). But I'm afraid that might be a major change in your application and perhaps not worth the hassle.

I am preparing a major web-part update, mainly about lyrics versions (correcting them) and users access. I don't want to complicate plugin itself, but it already has feature for the selecting exact lyrics version (if there are several versions)... there's a lot of work, but i hope i will place something in a couple of days and then we'll discuss what seems to be good solution and what can be improved. i will describe full lyrics selecting mechanism and how users can affect on it (complaining, for example)... I really want to make it all done as soon as possible.

Yes, I read that, but I got the error message I told when I tried to make it use my own server. I suspected that the page didn't describe the whole protocol. If the page had all that is necessary, I'll have to check again my system..

I have my own play statistics system in a local database. It includes lyrics for tracks, so I'd like to be able to direct the lyrics requests for my existing lyrics fetching script, so that it can save a local copy simultaneously. I could of course use e.g. foo_run to send the lyrics to my db after getting them to the tags, but that would be one extra step, which I'd rather not include.

I'm sure you are pretty busy already, so if you don't have much time, I can play some more with sniffing tools trying to figure out the exact protocol (or tying to figure if I have made some errors there)

I just noticed that the problem stays only when trying to contact localhost, so I guess my server returns something the plugin does not like. I guess I'll have to try some other http server to see if the problem lies with the server itself or something else.

Sure, but imagine you post one or more lyrics containing errors and the system does not inform you of the corrections... seems to me equally annoying.

Furthermore, it can be made optional (in the user profile).

is there any way to have the DB search for results that are as close as possible to the track name, and not necessarily the exact name? all of my track titles are tagged like so - 01. Title.. etc,. and so the DB doesn't find any matches.

i really would rather not have to go through and retag everything

I don't see any reason why someone would tag his files with tracknumber - title in the title tag
And if you want to change it you don't have to do it manually, but you can do it with the masstagger very fast and clean! If you want to use Ldb than you will have to retag them.

i tag all my files like that for proper organization and display on my ipod. you may find it even crazier that i tag all my album titles with the year in front, for example - 1997 - Album That Was Released In 1997. i do this for a similar reason.. my ipod is only able to sort albums in alphabetical order. tagging them the way i tag them allows them to be displayed in chronological order.

anyway.. how can i use masstagger to only remove certain characters from the tag of more than one file at the same time? i've tried several tagging utilities to find that kind of function, but i've come up short so far. i've never used foobar's masstagger though.. how would i go about doing that?

i tag all my files like that for proper organization and display on my ipod. you may find it even crazier that i tag all my album titles with the year in front, for example - 1997 - Album That Was Released In 1997. i do this for a similar reason.. my ipod is only able to sort albums in alphabetical order. tagging them the way i tag them allows them to be displayed in chronological order.

Don't quote me on that, but I think that, if you use foo_pod and put special tags on your files (like, for example, foo_title), you can then write those tags when transferring them on the iPod.

hm. there already running engine for guessing slightly different titles, but there's no possibility to make fuzzy-match with the database. i'll publish a bit more about all this stuff for tose of you who are interested, but seems that you have a problem, you can't use tracknumber in the titles, sorry

hm... there a lot of lyrics with more than 4k lyrics? i thought it is nice border... no, there's no way right now. i want to add "do NOT ask anything" checkbox in the next version

So, here we go, a lot of changes come, some of them were on the fly for a time, some not, so I'll try to mention all of them with a little description.

- New 0.0.4w version released. Main feature is multilyrics select box and finally-working-as-it-shold lyrics versions. Also so desired "do not show any messages" checkbox added, but it is really really really not a good idea to use it. Really good idea is to keep your music correctly described, and you won't see any stupid messages like "both artist and title must be set", anyway, that's it (direct link).
- Little guessing engine description added to let you imagine why some lyrics could not be found and what could, just in case you are interested in.
- Artists can now have aliases, examples: "björk" and "bjork", "offspring" and "the offspring". Aliases could not be added or edited by users currently.
- A lot of users/web changes, read more in users policy.
- Complaining about bad/dirty lyrics is now available on the lyrics viewing page. Complained lyrics supposed to be checked by the database staff.

news in 0.0.4w:
- added "abort" in "stupid message" and "both artist and title tags must be set" messages.
- added "don't show any messages" option to the plugin's configuration. It is strongly not recommended to enable this feature again.
- LYRICS_WARNING_SIZE changed to 8k
- some fixes in multilyrics dialogbox (you can't see that box in earlier versions).

By the way, there are news (http://lyrics.mirkforce.net/news.html) and changelog (http://lyrics.mirkforce.net/changelog.html) on the plugin's website, but I think, I'll post it in this thread too.

Just before this I got an error, which I do not exactly recall, but I know it had something to do with some helpers.h file and LyricsDB caused the error.

It happened after getting and selectbox for different lyrics where just one where mentonied and I clicked on 'get'.

This is the first time lyricsDB does anything like this to my foobar and I'm really astonished! I hope I could describe the error good enough, so that the reason for it can be found...

EDIT: Might be interesting: the lyrics where for Darkane - Chaos Vs Order, might be it is because the lyrics contain HTML-Tags, but I can't think why then lyricsdb should crash.....

It won't happen again.
By the way there 0.0.5 coming with some major changes. Actually I have finished the alpha version in the morning. I think, that it is a good idea to begin providing beta versions, just like foobar2k developers do. So in a few days will appear first fully functional foo_lyricsdb 0.0.5 beta 1.
