I've decided on buying the AEGO2 system, only to realise that it has been discontinued and unavailable for purchase in the UK. (I will check with the local audio dealer however, but I'm not willing to pay a lot extra for it.) I decided on these quite quickly, so I never had the chance to read through other 2.1 speakers. So could you recommend some 2.1 speakers which have similar performance to the AEGO2? I'm willing to spend a maximum of £130 on these speakers.

Also, on a side note; which soundcard is better? The M-Audio Audiophile 24/96 or the E-MU 0404? They are both regarded to be quality cards, and have a similar price; which one would be the most suitable? (Or doesn't it matter with S/PDIF output?)

Well, most systems that include a sub are cheapie multimedia speakers, and buying a decent separate sub might go over your budget. I'd get a pair of powered studio monitors instead.

If you're using S/PDIF, I doubt there would be a difference.

For the money that these were reduced to the AEGOs were pretty much unbeatable. I got a pair for use with my TV. For 80 quid nothing comes close. (guess its possible that superfi stores might have a couple left in-store) Would sell you mine as im not using them right now, but i want to hang on to them until I have the space again! I would seriously recommend using ebay to get some.

Klipsch ProMedia 2.1 ^^^. I've been a happy owner of one of the above since the spring of 2003, and I can say without a doubt that they are quite literally the pinnacle of 2.1 audio for the PC. The sheer power is absolutely amazing. Turning the volume up half way will get you a visit from the local cops (happened to me one night). Don't even attempt to push the sub past the recommended 25% level - you'll collapse the building around you. What's even more impressive is that this HUGE sound comes without a hint of distortion. I don't know what else the originator of this thread was thinking of buying, but if it ain't a Klipsch, forget it.

After searching for Klipsch ProMedia speakers, I've concluded that these are impossible to purchase within the UK. But I manged to find the AEGO 2 on Play.com for £99.99 delivered. However, the picture shown does not match the one on AE's official website, and the description says "The Aego builds on the strengths of the award winning Aego 2". Are these the sequels to the highly successful AEGO 2? If so, then would it be worth waiting for it to be released in November?

This company is listed as a Klipsch distributor in the U.K. , perhaps they are worth giving a call?

http://www.realtimeonline.co.uk/

Perhaps they have inventory they don't list on the website. Or maybe they know of a local dealer. If not, well, one wasted phone call doesn't hurt too bad.

If you can't find a UK retailer, check a US site that ships internationally. I found one: MonarchComputer.com, which has a 4.5/5 rating at Pricegrabber.com. The speakers can be found here.

If that fails, you may try buying the Logitech Z-2300 set, it has nearly the same specs as the Klipsch set above and pretty similar performance from the reviews I've read. Also, it retails directly in the UK for 119 pounds.

Let us know how the search is going.

I have wanted to get the AEGO 2's for ages. It appears that the ones on play are a new version of them. If the AEGO P5 MkII's drop in price majorly because of the new style, I will pick some of these up instead, otherwise I'll be getting some of the new look AEGO 2's.

There's a dealer of them, in my town who I am getting to know quite well now, so I might go and ask him about them to find out whats going on with these apparently new look ones. smile.gif

I also found a website that is located in the UK selling the original AEGO 2s here. The thing is, I'm not entirely sure that the ones at Play.com are in fact the new AEGO 2s; the description says "the Aego builds on the strengths of the award winning AEGO 2". Why is it not AEGO 3? Is it just a re-release of the Aego 2 but with cosmetic changes? Why is M-System mentioned in the description? Why is it not listed on AE's website?

TS2Master, if you do get any information on these apparantly new Aegos, please write back.

Dear Sir,

The Aego M System is an update on the Aego 2 model, retail will be £99. The
styling has been updated and the drive units in the sat speakers have been
improved. Apart from this the product remains very similar to the award
winning Aego 2.

Your Message to us: It appears the AEGO 2's have been discontinued in the UK
and I have been chatting to quite a few people about it and we are all
rather confused. Are you bringing out a new style of AEGO 2's as it would
appear from this site:
http://www.play.com/play247.asp?page=title...4&p=321&g=409&p
a=sr#

If this is true, what is the difference between these new AEGO 2's and the
old ones?

I hope you can satisy our enquiring minds...

Thanks,

Pete.

Wow, that is awesome. I guess I'll definitely have to wait for the AE M-System then! It's a shame that they won't be available until the 9th of December, which I hope it can be delivered before Christmas so I can share it with everyone. laugh.gif
