Slowly getting there... Sorting out final problems with ABC/HR not calculating the right offset here - works fine on schnofler's side, though.
Oh, and it seems that the version he told me that he can provide can use JRE 1.5 if it's available and when not, it falls back to 1.4 (he and I hope This post has been edited by Sebastian Mares: Dec 5 2005, 23:31 -------------------- http://listening-tests.hydrogenaudio.org/sebastian/

Notice that in this build for the test *only* the "Streaming :: Medium" with LC-AAC which produces about 128-133kbps average with ABR coding is tweaked and ready for the test using our new generation codec core. Wait a second, now I am a bit confused. Didn't you guys say that exactly this version of the DLL is going to be included in the Nero package and that you are sending me this so I don't have to wait for the whole Nero package to be released? Edit: QUOTE (Ivan Dimkovic @ Nov 22 2005, 02:53 PM) QUOTE Sebastian Mares> For the experimental encoder of Nero Digital, I'm a bit puzzled. The test would include on one hand four encoders released for general purpose and widely available to the public and on the other hand one encoder released for the only purpose of the test. This is a non-issue, Nero AAC encoder that will be used in the test will be in the next regular web-release of Nero7. We had similar cases earleir and all changes ended up in the next public build of N7. QUOTE (guruboolez @ Nov 22 2005, 03:09 PM) Will the next update of Nero Digital include the tested encoder and produce exactly the same output? If the answer is positive, I agree with you about the non-issue QUOTE (Ivan Dimkovic @ Nov 22 2005, 03:10 PM)

I think it is enough if the used setting produces identical files with the release version. That can be checked after the release. They said they had not enough time to tweak the other settings.
I see no reason why they should not include the tweaks in case the test result is good. If the result is bad, hmm... then perhaps they have a good reason to do more work on it, it will not harm the validity of the other results. I don't think they could have made a "test only" encoder that performs only with the tested setting. It is not a racecar engine. If that would be possible they should include it in the Nero package anyway and use it only with this specific setting. Actually, LAME 3.97b2 was released a couple of days ago and it is already included in the test without any kind of experience. The same can be said about Vorbis 4.51. Though, the Vorbis changes were said to be at below q3. In that sense we have three racecar engines here. Ah, so the output is an identical copy, not the DLL itself. Sorry, I misunderstood that.

I am pretty much ready. Waiting for Roberto to show up in ICQ so he can grab the samples and host them. FYI, I did not include any of the new samples posted (silent with much dynamics, Björk, etc.). Maybe in the next test.

How much run-in delay are you going to put in the abchr-java config files? I think Gabriel recommended several seconds.

Mac users can take the test on a live Linux system like Ubuntu Not possible. Why not? Live Linux system boots off a CD-ROM disc to RAM and nothing is written to a HDD. No need to remap disk partitions or install software, but internet connection or CD/DVD writer are required (to save results). That may be very possible, but it doesn't help unless there is also a JRE v1.5 for it. And I can't see PowerPC in this list: http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.5.0/system-configurations.html |

The JRE 1.5 for OS X 10.4 is only available from apple for some reason. Seems silly both to only announce it there, and to only release it for 10.4, but that's apple... |
