New Forum & Portal Software!

We've just updated the forum and portal software and we're trying to iron out a few of the remaining kinks.  Please be patient.  However, if you notice something that's horribly broken (error msgs, etc), by all means let us know by posting in this thread.

For those that are curious, here's a list of the current improvements:
IBF 1.1 new features

The software tells you how many people are reading the thread you're currently viewing, along with their aliases. Kinda freaky!

Known issues so far that we still need to get fixed:

- The forum rules are not back online yet..

Everything else so far seems to be going ok I believe.

Seems to be working well - and feels faster than the old version.

One more bonus - it looks like avatars are finally working for me again.

I can finally see the checkboxes and dropdown lists in the user cp again in Mozilla!

The text is somewhat smaller now.

I really enjoyed the easy-readable standard/HA skin.

It looks great, this is one of the most good looking(readable), fast and informative forums around.  Good work!!

Log out, then log in again and select the option to be hidden from the online users list. Then you will show up as "anonymous". Admins can still see who you are, though.

Are you talking about the font in the posts themselves?

I haven't directly compared the font size with the old ones, but the easy reading skin from the old version of the software is basically defaulted now.  The font (in posts) actually appears to be fairly large to me.

Anyone else who used the easy reading skin think the fonts are too small?

a. I think what CiTay said should cover it.
b. Do you mean the fonts are too big?  Perhaps you could explain a little bit more in detail exactly what you mean by the headers.

Also, for people who are having issues with the way the forum looks (ie. don't like it/etc), it'd be even more helpful if you'd post screenshots (perhaps along with a description) so that I can see more directly what you are talking about.

At any rate, most things should be exactly the same as they were on the last version of the software.  The only likely difference in layout is coming from the fonts...  Some people were obviously used to the default smaller fonts of the old version, and some used to the bigger fonts of the easy reading skin.  Maybe I'll make a new theme with smaller fonts again or something when I have some more free time.

The font size in the posts is about the same size.
The rest seems smaller.

Problem can be solved by specifying relative font-sizes - i.e. 110% instead of 11pt in the style sheet. Relative sizes works with the browser-font-size option.

Are the "go to last unread post" arrow buttons on the main portal page coming back? I miss them!

is there any special reason for using the fixed size fonts?, ie users cant easily use the view/textsize option.
(in css you can use the relative sizes as well - http://www.w3schools.com/css/pr_font_font-size.asp)

header on portal site is "logo + logged in as xxx line + hydrogen audio... line + welcome back xxx line", meaning the real content starts kinda late - thats the 'latest threads', same goes for forums, with missing 'welcome back...' line. ( snapshot -  http://smokeamiga.virtualave.net/ha_snap.jpg )

all iam saying that i liked the older version better (smaller header, lol), but nothing critical

About fixed font sizes vs relative font sizes, I don't know.  I didn't design the software or the default theme, and I haven't even really had a chance to do much of anything with the fonts.  You can feel free to ask at http://www.invisionboard.com on the forums though if you like.

Also, I believe that you can get around these problems by using a browser like Mozilla which allows you more direct control over font sizes, even if they are fixed.

Hrmm.. yeah, I'll take a look.  I didn't realize they were gone until you mentioned it  Shouldn't be too hard to add back in though, but I probably won't get to it till later today.

We've just made a new skin available which is pretty much like the smaller font skin before our recently software update.

You can select the new skin the same way as before.  Click "My Controls" up top, then go down to "Options: Skin and Languages" on the left side of your control panel, and then select the new skin from the pull down box and submit your changes.

Does the search function work @ the moment? Tried searching  for mpc and radio then... *mpc and radio...then mpc and finally *mpc  no results at all?

Interesting...tried it again..and I got this thread...no results on prior threads though..

Yeah, the search works, but unfortunately the minimum charachter amount is 4. Also because it seems to do "wildcard" search by deafult, * is no longer functional.

So at the moment you cant search "mpc" "mp3" "aac", but you can choose the category where to do the search.
So, if you do the search in "MPC" category, it's pretty sure that you'll find information regarding MPC (since it only searches MPC forums)...

So in your case, just search "radio" in MPC category..

2 new features added:
- Forum jump bar on top.
- Spell checker (pop-up window) button next to "preview post"

Known problems with the jump bar:
- jumps to categories are not yet implemented (not featured yet by IBF).
- when trying to jump to a category with the original jump bar on the bottom in thread view, it complains about incorrect forum/category, although it shouldn't do anything.
- in any case quick jumps to categories dont work yet.

One small problem (happened to me on 2 different pc's):

When not logged in, it is impossible to search the forum. (Is this necessary?) It returns a login box, which I complete. After this, the search contuinues but returns "An error occured. If you are unsure..."
Yeah

After that, it's impossible to perform any searches

What kind of search you are trying to do? Searching while logged off works for me.

The additional forum jump box is also back.
