Splitting AAC chapters into separate files

I'm trying to split some m4b files that have chapter marks into separate files. Does anyone know of a tool on *nix to do this?

If a tool does not exist can anyone suggest an overview of how one would accomplish this? How can I extract the XML chapter file?

I also would really like such a tool. So far as I know, right now I'm stuck trying to figure out how to script Quicktime Pro to do it.

I found something that seems like it should be able to do it, but doesn't yet. I emailed the creator, but I haven't heard back from him yet. The tool is called xld (for X Lossless Decoder). Maybe if we can generate enough interest he will add the feature (even though it seems to go against the gist of the program which is to decode *lossless* formats, which AAC files are not).

Let me know if you find anything.
