Hi everyone, I'm a newbie here so hope these (2) questions aren't too stupid. smile.gif

I've read here that Ogg Vorbis uses transform coding (MDCT) so it is in the family of coders such as JPEG (for images) and MPEG (for video).

First question (a bit off the point):

Can't seem to find a definite answer for this but is mp3 technically a subband coder, pseudo-subband coder, or pseudo-transform coder?

Second question:

Do you think transform coding is better than subband coding in audio? I myself dabble a bit in the area of image coding and read that the distortions incurred tend to be different between the two. Is this the case for audio as well? In this respect, does Ogg Vorbis being a transform coder have an advantage/disadvantage over the various subband audio coders out there?

I'm a newbie so no laughing please biggrin.gif wink.gif
