The third beta release of my Winamp playback plugin for files created by TAK, my new lossless audio compressor.
The final is out: TAK Winamp Plugin 1.0.1 - Final release History: V1.0.1 Beta 3 / 7-04-04 New features: - Implemented the plugin interface function used by the media library to request tag information. I am having trouble (winamp 5.33 no longer responding) with drag and drop of files into the media library. This seems to be a Win 98 compatibility issue, because the same happens, if i add raw wave files (*.wav), hence it can not be caused by my plugin. Bug fixes: - Winamp crashed when reading a APEv2 tag items with an empty value. V1.0.1 Beta 2 / 7-04-03 Bug fixes: - When clicking on an item in the playlist, the file title sometimes changed from the info taken from the file tag (Artist + Title) to the filename or the plugin even crashed! This had been caused by a multithreading issue which was most likely to show up on multicore systems. V1.0.1 Beta 1 / 7-04-03 New features (over alpha 0.03): - Based upon the final code of the first SDK release. - Reads APEv2 tags located at the end of the file. The file info dialog shows the most important tag items. - Reads new encoder version meta data structure introduced in TAK 1.0.1. The file info dialog shows encoder version, preset and evaluation level. For files created with TAK 1.0 the evaluation level is unknown. Please look into the ReadMe for more information. I had no opportunity to test the new APEv2 tag support on a large collection of files, under other operating systems than Win 98 or under operating systems using other languages than german. Therefore bugs in this new feature are possible... I will remove the alpha release from the upload section as soon as there is enough feedback, that this beta is ok. Please don't distribute this beta version, better wait for the stable release. Have fun and thanks for testing! Thomas This post has been edited by TBeck: Apr 10 2007, 02:57 |

Thanks for the improvments for the plugin!!! Will you add a feature to edit or add tags to the TAK files in Winamp? Not very soon. TAK software version 1.0.1 (Winamp plugin, SDK and the applications) will only read tags. I plan to add tag writing support at least to the command line application (TAKC) in V 1.0.2. Then i will also think about adding tag writing support to the Winamp plugin and possibly the SDK. |

I cleared out my ML as per the other thread, and dare I say the player, playlist and ML all appear to be displaying the proper information - I now have the artist appearing in the ML.

Hi Thomas
thanks for this release: now even my tak files are submitted to audioscrobbler. I am having trouble (winamp 5.33 no longer responding) with drag and drop of files into the media library. This seems to be a Win 98 compatibility issue, because the same happens, if i add raw wave files (*.wav), hence it can not be caused by my plugin. I couldn't replicate the problem; i tried dragging and dropping single files, folders with an "album" worth of songs, folders with multiple album worth of songs, and even dropped the entire TAK library (~20 gb) on it, no crashes. Is replaygain support planned? |

Fine! Looks, as if this could be the last beta. Then i can prepare the release of the next part of TAK 1.0.1. Is replaygain support planned? Hm, i don't know much about this feature, but aren't the parameters beeing stored in the tags and isn't it the responsibility of a player to read and apply them? |

I ask because winamp replaygain plugin cannot scan TAK files... so i guess you need to do something on your part too. I think for foobar, you can calculate the Replay gain for any decodable file. |

I ask because winamp replaygain plugin cannot scan TAK files... so i guess you need to do something on your part too. I think for foobar, you can calculate the Replay gain for any decodable file. While TAK 1.0.1 add's tag reading functions, TAK 1.0.2 will add tag writing functions. Then it's possible to put the replaygain data (generated by another application) into the APEv2 tag. (It's already possible, if other applications write or update the tag by themselves). Probably i will have to do more to make it work with winamp, but i haven't dealt with this issue yet, because replaygain support currently is not among the top priority items on my to do list. Hi Thomas
Sometimes, while playing a tak song, winamp just crashes. Playback continues in the background normally, even the playback time thing works normally until i click on the "send error report"/"don't send error report" dialogue". It has happened about 3 times now, but it seems to appear at random. Here's the file that the error reporting wanted to send: CODE <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-16"?> <DATABASE> <EXE NAME="winamp.exe" FILTER="GRABMI_FILTER_PRIVACY"> <MATCHING_FILE NAME="burnlib.dll" SIZE="83968" CHECKSUM="0x22A10E59" MODULE_TYPE="WIN32" PE_CHECKSUM="0x0" LINKER_VERSION="0x0" LINK_DATE="02/13/2007 18:16:45" UPTO_LINK_DATE="02/13/2007 18:16:45" /> <MATCHING_FILE NAME="libmp4v2.dll" SIZE="167424" CHECKSUM="0xF1117E39" MODULE_TYPE="WIN32" PE_CHECKSUM="0x0" LINKER_VERSION="0x0" LINK_DATE="02/13/2007 18:17:00" UPTO_LINK_DATE="02/13/2007 18:17:00" /> <MATCHING_FILE NAME="libsndfile.dll" SIZE="227328" CHECKSUM="0x1B651533" MODULE_TYPE="WIN32" PE_CHECKSUM="0x0" LINKER_VERSION="0x0" LINK_DATE="02/13/2007 18:17:47" UPTO_LINK_DATE="02/13/2007 18:17:47" /> <MATCHING_FILE NAME="nde.dll" SIZE="79360" CHECKSUM="0x6C942475" MODULE_TYPE="WIN32" PE_CHECKSUM="0x0" LINKER_VERSION="0x0" LINK_DATE="02/13/2007 18:17:56" UPTO_LINK_DATE="02/13/2007 18:17:56" /> <MATCHING_FILE NAME="nscrt.dll" SIZE="352256" CHECKSUM="0x9E92CAA4" BIN_FILE_VERSION="7.10.0.0" BIN_PRODUCT_VERSION="7.10.0.0" PRODUCT_VERSION="7.10.0000" FILE_DESCRIPTION="User-Generated Microsoft ® C/C++ Runtime Library" COMPANY_NAME="Nullsoft, Inc." Sometimes, while playing a tak song, winamp just crashes. Playback continues in the background normally, even the playback time thing works normally until i click on the "send error report"/"don't send error report" dialogue". It has happened about 3 times now, but it seems to appear at random. Here's the file that the error reporting wanted to send: That's strange. Have you earlier used the alpha 0.03 plugin on the same system without getting such errors? The only idea i have: It's a multithreading issue which only shows up on multi core systems. My plugin code is based upon the template from the winamp sdk (2.x). I always thought, that this template possibly should take more care for the synchronisation of multiple threads. But on the other hand the winamp plugins of some other popular lossless compressors seem to be using the same rudimentary synchronisation functions... Possibly the template from winamp's sdk is indeed faulty regarding thread synchronization, but this earlier has not been noticed because multi cpu systems were so rare. Nevertheless it's also possible that it's something totally different. If other users have encountered similar errors, please tell me!!! Currently i can't do much, i will have to wait for more information or bug reports. Too bad. Thomas |

Since yesterday my secondary PC is continously playing TAK files with winamp 5.32 without any trouble. thanks for this release: now even my tak files are submitted to audioscrobbler. Very interesting that you mention "audioscrobbler". I found several items in the winamp forums regarding crashes when using this plugin... For instance: FAQ: Troubleshooters; Common Issues "Audioscrobbler plugin crashes Winamp under WinXP SP2 (user32.dll): Search | Get fixed v1.18 here" and crash during playback of certain items (5.32) There may be more, but those two are enough for me. Probably you should check this... This post has been edited by TBeck: Apr 6 2007, 06:40 |

Last chance to report bugs
I intend to use the code of the beta 3 as base for the final release. If someone of the beta testers has found any bugs in beta 3, please tell me now! Probably you should check this... Thanks for the links. Will report on progress. Any news? Because you are the only one so far reporting such errors and because exactly those errors are beeing described in the Winamp-trouble shooting faq when using the audioscrobbler plugin, i tend to attribute your error findings to audioscrobbler. Thomas I'm now 100% sure that those were caused by audioscrobbler. reasons: 1. Before having audioscrobbler i didn't get that error in winamp 2. When i use the plugin with 1by1 player i don't get that error. (same with mediamonkey) 3. Problem has gone away after i removed audioscrobbler. (Should've posted this earlier. sorry to have kept you waiting) |
