With news or without It looks like vorbis is dead anyway. At least in regard of actively improvement the quality of the codec.

AoTuV is too mature to be "actively improved" IMHO.

The best measure of the maturity degree is tests like these ;-)

QUOTE Hi there vorbis fans smile.gif Aoyumi seems little quiet lately, does anyone of you has any news about the upcoming release? Everything in the AoTuV tunings will be merged into the main line source for the next major release of libvorbis 1.3.0. That's about it. On top of that an HA forum member compiled an SSE Optimized version of AoTuV tunings and created a 32-bit x86 Linux compile that's about 3x faster then the standard build. QUOTE The best measure of the maturity degree is tests like these ;-) This test does not appear to be a very good indication of anything? This "added noise" everyone talks about is called "Noise Normalization". It's trivial for the lower quality values. It's not used beyond a -q 6. I am not of the impression that one should just keep tuning the encoder consistently as it may cause regressions especially if everything is not double checked and implemented in the mainline after further testing. I am not stating that AoTuV tunings are not very good, because they are. I am just stating there is possibility that might happen with some samples sometimes. QUOTE Any idea when libvorbis 1.3.0 will be released? It depends on what projects Xiph is working on and what coincides with their schedule. I would think Monty would be the only one merging the tunings into the main branch, but he is still busy working on Theora. Unless the job is left up to someone else now or another contributor I am really not sure. I wouldn't put a time stamp on anything though! -------------------- College student/IT Assistant

aoTuV post-beta5.7 [20100314] (wip) released
*Probably "wip" mean "Work In Progress". QUOTE This is a test version including an important change of a plan included in in a next version. [ Limit Quality -2/-1/0 ] With fixed bug of "-ignore_length" in venc. And, don't use less or equal -q-1 on 32kHz, libvorbis is buggy download: http://www.geocities.jp/aoyoume/aotuv/test.html This post has been edited by madoka@ex-sounds: Mar 14 2010, 20:06 --------------------

For various reasons, a number of bug fixes and coupled surround support bumped their way way to the head of the line ahead of the AoTuV merge work. I'm pointing this out here just so no one will think that the work isn't happening— it just hasn't happened yet. |

New version of aoTuV released. Click
Download from here. Woot! 5.1 aotuv! EDIT: Is anyone else getting problems trying to encode at any quality setting above q0? It just defaults to q0, no matter what you tell it to do! EDIT2: Apparently it's already been answered. I have to say I find this ridiculous! This post has been edited by Xanikseo: May 17 2010, 17:40 |

I ABX tested this latest test build against the killer samples found at the following thread started by sauvage78:
Multi-Codec Listening Tests At q2 I could still easily ABX the Autechre, Abfahrt and Kraftwerk samples. Especially Autechre I could ABX at every try. |

I ABX tested this latest test build against the killer samples found at the following thread started by sauvage78: Multi-Codec Listening Tests At q2 I could still easily ABX the Autechre, Abfahrt and Kraftwerk samples. Especially Autechre I could ABX at every try. Unfortunately I do not make those samples a target this time. Therefore, I may not anticipate the so big improvement with those samples. Cranberries___zombie_partial2 is also easy at -q2. In comparison with the former (beta) version, how? You please tell me about it if you feel that it is bad than before. aoTuV post-beta5.7 [20100718] (for tester) aoTuV [20100718] (r510) [ Limit Quality -2/-1/0/1/2 ] This is a bugfix version of "20100711". The new problem by the specific pattern in the previous version was fixed. This post has been edited by Aoyumi: Jul 18 2010, 18:31 |
