Hi all,
I have some mp3 related to live/concert music, and I would join together in a single file plus the relative .cue file, without gaps and recode the files.
I used the option in foobar 0.9.5.1 "Convert ---> Convert to album images with CueSheet" + using the crossfader DSP option with the default setting...But doing in this way, I need Encode again the files.

Do you know if exist another way without encode the files?

P.S.: All my mpe files are initially encoded at 225Kb, and I encode it using lame 3.97 set at maximum rate with the following settings: -S --noreplaygain -V 0 --vbr-new - %d
Is correct or I must modify my settings??

Many thanksfor your help

Based on the settings you've given, you won't be able to do this without re-encoding.

> You are supposed to be able to join/split/trim MP3s without re-encoding.

1) You cannot crossfade without re-encoding.

2) You cannot join two mp3s together and have them be truly gapless if the trailing edge of the encoded data in the first track does not coincide with a frame boundary (not including other potential issues such as a discontinuity in amplitude between the samples at the boundary).

If anyone wants to augment #2 please do. I'm certain that #1 is indisputable.

You mean that if I split a live album in several mp3, when I need join in a single file, I Need always re-encoding all the file (if I need the crossfading)???
At this point is always better to rip alive album directly in a single file and then split the tracks. In this way the splitting doesn't re-econde the file, and I'll have both single and split files...Correct?

Also if I use EAC to rip with accurate settings and then burn with Nero using crossfading option set to -0,5 sec between tracks? In this way the re-encoding should be minimal or not?

If you're creating a single-file mp3 image from individual mp3 files encoded separately, then yes, absolutely.

If you split a single-file mp3 image with a program like musiCutter or mp3DirectCut you don't have to re-encode. You can even put them back together to recreate the single-file mp3 image if you like as well since the process is lossless (for the audio data, at least).

Re-encoding is not required if you're just burning mp3s to CDDA.

Considering they're encoded using Lame, I have no idea why you would want to crossfade. Gapless playback and decoding of Lame encoded tracks has been possible for quite some time now, though I don't know whether Nero is capable.

I have only the final mp3 files, already ripped (I don't know how)...If I playback using foobar2000, between 2 tracks I listen the gap (because is a live album). Same problem if I'll try to join together in a single file. This means that probably this files are not ripped in the right way.
In order to remove the gap between 2 tracks, the only way that I found is using DSP crossfading in foobar or using mp3 editor software (mp3directcut, NeroWaveEdito...etc.etc), but at the end they obviously re-encode the file.

Wouldn't it be possible to use per-frame volume changes (à la mp3gain) to perform volume fading? Instead of using a uniform gain value, you could vary the values over time.

mp3DirectCut does not re-encode.

mp3DirectCut has a fading function, but the OP is interested in crossfading.
