I am still required to login when changing PC's (and IP addresses).
lossyWAV -q X -a 4 -s h -A --feedback 2 --limit 15848 --scale 0.5 | FLAC -5 -e -p -b 512 -P=4096 -S- (having set foobar to output 24-bit PCM; scaling by 0.5 gives the ANS headroom to work)

I can also confirm that on one of my machines I must always log in (fields are populated, but I must hit the button), while the other remembers my credentials. Both running Firefox 3.0.6 on XP Pro. I've cleared all cookies on the affected machine, but still the same.

You mentioned that you use different browsers, but also on the same machine? i.e. does switching browsers on one machine make the problem disappear?

I had problems before with "broken cookies" and Firefox. It can be a pain to get it do delete everything.

I finally had the time to test out this new forum.

1) Topic Subscription Reply Notification
[blockquote]"There may be more replies to this topic, but only 1 email is sent per board visit for each subscribed topic. This is to limit the amount of mail that is sent to your inbox."[/blockquote][blockquote]- Old HA forum ignored this and always sent an email. Please bring it back! Please! I don't want to login every time just to get new notifications in the future! I usually only login when it's needed (writing posts). I already have missed couple of posts because of this... I wonder how many I've not noticed.[/blockquote]2) "Your daily new topics digest" emails aren't showing any links to the topics for Forum Subscriptions. Major drag. Dunno how this was with the old forum. For some reason I started to get daily digests from "Validated News" forum after the forum update. IIRC I had no digests before the change.

No changes planned here. Sending multiple emails is particularly a problem because gazillions of people are asking for email replies, and then changing ISP without changing their email here. As a result, our server is constantly hammering those ISP's with mails for invalid addresses.

If we only send 1 mail per topic, the problem eventually peters out. With your suggestion, we'll just spam more and more.

Additionally, the idea is for people to come and read here, and discuss here. This is not a mailinglist.

I do not want to touch this IPB feature, and I do not want to change the current behaviour.

3) Why is the "Remember me?" on by default in login page? Was that default in the old forum? I use Opera's Wand feature, so I easily forget to check that off. And what does it actually do? Am I quickly booted out if I don't put it on when logging in?

It puts a cookie which removes the need for you to log in the next time you visit the site.

4) "My Controls" page minor style bug
[blockquote] 1) go to "My Controls" and notice the look of the "Menu" box
2) click any link in the "Messenger" section
= notice how the look of the Menu changes

[/blockquote]Confirmed.

I used that RSS + the "Posts" feed to get all (maybe) topics to show in my GreatNews RSS reader. Constantly the other feed showed posts which the other didn't.. I'm not sure if this is because of my RSS reader (I can see couple of missed posts in the RSS feed now).. I'm going to try FeedDemon and see if that performs better. Or has anyone noticed that the RSS feeds misses some posts?
[/blockquote]

The old RSS feed simply no longer works with the new forum. I will split the new one in 2 feeds, as described above already. I don't know if the missing posts are problem on your or our side (except again for the limitations as described in previous posts)

It seems to have been cured now - the different browsers are on different PCs.

Many thanks Garf.

I understand but still.. maybe the "non-valid email addresses" issue should be resolved somehow. Maybe automatically unsubscribing/stop sending when last X emails bounce back (if that can be tracked). I just posted an "Immediate Email Notification" setting POLL topic.

I'm not following you on the mailinglist concern, if the digest notification email doesn't have links to topics on this forum, how do you expect the readers of those emails to come here to discuss?

Great, let us know when you've done the split.

I have now tried FeedDemon for couple of days and I got to say that it really seems that some posts are missed for some reason. I don't have the time to test this more, I got enough ongoing debugging with various software already (latest is VirtualBox with 4 new bugs! (3 major) ). The splitted RSS will probably help out this problem.. though I don't want insinuate that this is a HA forum bug.

When you read the post on the old forums the icon disappeared. They disappear on the page that comes up when you click "More..." to get to "Today's Active Topics"

I'm not sure what you mean here, but the icons are supposed to be there...?

It's what Nick.C said, in the old forum the icons dissapeared when you have read the thread.

Is it a new thing that they should not dissapear ?

They disappear in the "more" listing. On the portal, I thought the never disappeared but looked "faded" on the old forum. You're right neither behavior seems to work right now.

Is it possible to make Verdana 9 pt instead of 10 pt the main font for posts?

Oh hell no. HA can't become another victim of the tiny text disease. We've got more screen real estate than ever, and there's no reason to compress everything down to stamp size.

While you're here:

How about allowing image links to attachments outside the attachment post? I can't tell you how many times I've bumped into that. Is there some special reason only mods can do it?

9 pt is stamp size? Good grief! The path name of the forum you're currently in is in 9 pt. Verdana looks much better than in 10 pt size.

I think there's a problem with the width of codeboxes.

As an update, the codeboxes look fine on firefox 2, but not on firefox 3, ie6 or ie7.

@Garf: any progress with the RSS split? Also about the new email notification setting, from my POLL: "Would it be a hassle to stab the forum code and providing an option to choose between these two polled settings per subscribed topic?"

I'm really frustrated with the forum RSS. I've been using FeedDemon (switched from GreatNews) and testing out Google Reader (FeedDemon might sync with this in the future) and constantly there are missed posts.

I just realized that in FeedDemon, (only some of?) the missed items are updated (content & time) but FeedDemon doesn't unmark them as read. The topics I tested this with is "REACT 2 Released" and "CUETools 1.9.2" (I had more items but the feed shows only last 15), both of these items had "Recommendations" in feedvalidator.org:
Code: [Select]
This feed is valid, but interoperability with the widest range of feed readers could be improved by implementing the following recommendations.

line 47, column 837: description should not contain relative URL references: index.php?act=findpost&pid=619953 (3 occurrences) [help]
... your needs, the source code is free.

line 54, column 0: description should not contain emoid attribute (4 occurrences) [help]

Quote Gregory S. Chudov:
"Nevertheless, i'll pr ...

line 114, column 0: Missing atom:link with rel="self" [help]

And here's the problematic items in order (couldn't copy the line numbers).. the first two (the last "recommendation" is not for an item):
Code: [Select]

I wonder if these have anything to do with the failures of FeedDemon and Google Reader updating these items correctly. I doubt it.

With Google Reader, the above 2 topic contents are updated BUT the "CUETools 1.9.2" item is dated as Jan 31, 2009 (the tooltip hover over that date shows: Received: Jan 31, 2009 8:59 PM ... Published: Mar 9, 2009 1:38 AM) and the "REACT 2 Released" item is dated as Feb 3, 2009 (and the tooltip: Received: Feb 3, 2009 10:40 PM ... Published: Mar 9, 2009 1:49 AM). Hovering other item dates show sometimes similar funny dates.

I wonder if the
in line 7 is to blame. There seems to be much talk on interwebs with this and
tags. Some talk something about "future datetimes" that will "hide" RSS items or something like that. Also when I read some of the date tooltip dates in other (working) feeds, the "Received" date is ALWAYS (minutes, hours, days) newer or same as the "Published" date. Is this the culprit? Those feeds don't have the channel
, only item
tags. One feed has just the
tag. And I just found other thread where this same problem happens; feed channel
(no
tag) date is older (about 2 hours) than the 1st feed item
tag date! FeedDemon shows the updated content and date but doesn't unmark it as read (just like with HA RSS), and Google Reader tooltip "Received" date is about ½ day older than the "Published" date (again just like with HA RSS). I think this information should be enough to nail this SOB RSS problem.

Could somebody put up a test RSS feed with different channel
and
tag variations? E.g. omit both tags, add both or just the lastBuildDate (with a date that is same or newer as the newest (1st) item). One dude on web said: "Be Sure To Use pubDate And lastBuildDate!". Dunno if he's right or not.. seems that omitting those will work too. I can test. I've spent several hours already with this today.

And why does the RSS item links sometimes direct you to old posts? Sometimes I'm shown (showed? which one is correct?) the first post of a long topic, sometimes a random post (not the first nor the last) and sometimes the last. I though that the http://www.hydrogenaudio.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=XXXXX&view=getnewpost link always goes to the last post.
