I have followed the instructions in the FAQ and downloaded the mp3 codec from Rarewares (also from freecodecs.com, and they appear identical, both lame3.98.2 btw) but I am unable to figure out how to install the codec. The directions on freecodecs refer to a file I can't find in system 32 (I am using Win XP)
I am a new user of Foobar 2k so if this question has been asked and answered already please be forgiving |

The batchfile (RegLAME_DS.bat) assumes that your Windows-directory is "Windows", AND that the file lame.ax is already copied!
Let's better do a complete manual install, following these steps: 1. Copy lame.ax to your [Windows]\System32 directory. 2. Open a command line (cmd.exe) 3. Type CODE CD \ [press RETURN-key] CD C:\Windows\System32 [press RETURN-key] regsvr32.exe lame.ax [press RETURN-key] 4. You'ill get a message - positive or negative. If your Windows-directory is "WINNT", you have to replace the string C:\Windows\System32 with C:\WINNT\System32. |

Russell, if you want to use lame in foobar2000, all you need is lame.exe, not lame.ax or lameACM.acm. Just copy lame.exe into foobar2000 folder.
