Do I still need to use mp3gain after converting flac to mp3? ITUNES/IPOD will not recognize the replaygain tag info. You'll either have to let itunes assign its own soundcheck value (which is about the same as replaygain track value), or use dppoweramp to "apply" the replaygain value to the mp3 in a permanent way (and then leave soundcheck OFF in itunes/ipod). |

Ah, ok.. I'll stick to mp3gain for normalizing then, it has been serving me well for a long time.
Thanks |

Bump, (didn't want to start a new thread just to ask this)
I've been playing around with the volume normalize dsp, and it has the same effects as mp3gain, I keep my flac files so volume normalization being irreversible is not an issue. (more like an advantage) I noticed that if the FLAC files have replaygain values, dbpoweramp will copy them to the mp3 as well, making it softer than 89db, since it already has been volume normalized. Is there a way to make dbpoweramp not copy replaygain tags? For now though, I just remove all replaygain info from flac files before converting them to mp3, and I'm happy with the result =) This post has been edited by Rasp: Apr 6 2009, 03:39 |

doesn't musicmusic's Ipod plugin for foobar convert replaygain values into soundcheck so ipods can use it?

I'm not using soundcheck, because applying replaygain via volume normalization allows me to use whatever mp3 player I want. If something goes wrong I can always fall back on the flac files =D

dBpoweramp will by default not copy rg tags, if you are seeing them in the mp3 then either you have a dsp effect in there, or the option in dBpoweramp configuraion to preserve the rg tags is checked (off by default)

MP3Tag has a script for converting RG to SC for the iPod.
