Is that possible? I have a large collection of VBR mp3 albums, but would like to know if they are encoded with v0. If they are not, I want to re-encode them from a lossless source to v0. Is there a way to do this?

this question has been answered several times before on HA.

following programs can scan the encoder of the mp3 files:

- EncSpot
- Mr. Questionman
- Foobar (not as exactly as the both above)

Your files need a correct MP3 header. If so, EncSpot and Mr. Questionman can tell you what setting you or others used.

Mr Questionman can display what LAME preset is used. Also foobar2000 can display what V setting is used as well.

Try Encspot or foobar2000.
