I've been searching through mp3tags help documents but couldn't find anything related to removing lyrics. I don't need this tag because I personally don't have a use for it, or don't have any devices that have very good support for it. How could I get mp3tag to remove just the lyrics?

I don't know wheher you can do it by mp3tag, but you can maybe give a try to tag.
It is a command line tool though. With this tool you can remove ID3v2 tags, but if your lyrics are stored in Lyrics3v2, then the only option would be to remove all the tags. I haven't tried to remove all the tags and to write only some of them at one command line, but it should be possible. |

Lyrics storage is less than 1 % of the file.
Are you sure you want to do the effort for that tiny gain? |

Yeah, mp3tag can do this: 1. Go to Mp3tag Options > Tags > Mpeg 2. Under the Remove group, make sure ID3v1 is checked (from my limited understanding, the lyrics tag metadata is stored in the same location as the ID3v1 tag); also make sure your write preferences are as you want them. 3. Select the files with lyrics tags, click Remove tag (this will remove lyrics and ID3v1 tags), then click Save (Mp3tag will re-write tags according to your write prefs). |

No, lyrics3 tags are different then ID3v1 tags, but since they are de facto extension of the ID3v1, this procedure might work. However, from OP I cannot understand whether the lyrics are storeg in ID3v2 or in Lyrics3 tags. I agree that such minimal size reduction doesn't worth but there might be some player compatibility issues (clicks at the eof for example). So far I haven't experienced any problems with Lyrics3v2 tags. This post has been edited by а.п.т.: May 11 2009, 12:20 |

By same location, I meant beginning or end of the file (ottomh I don't remember where ID3v1 is). In any case the procedure most certainly works Even though he didn't explicitly mention it, I could gather from the OP that he's trying to remove lyrics3 tags - having previously encountered the same problem myself using Mp3tag, and given that removing an ID3v2 would be fairly trivial |

I did what the above posts said about removing tags, undoing and saving them and it works. Thanks!
