Best Free Mp3 software With Lame.....

Hi fellas...
Now ive tried doing some search on Google for the some good mp3 converter....ive learnt that LAME ENCODER is the best thing to go through.

Now im kinda confused, i can't find NO programme/software dat goes by da name of Lame, i think its just like a plug-in/codec for the mp3 converting software...

Let me put it in simple terms guys..
I wanna convert all my WAV file in to the best quality MP3 bitrate which is 320kbps but i wanna get it done by the latest LAME ENCODING thing...

The following is what im doing or wanna do:
I normally download a lot of music, so if the quality is excellent for the files(i normally download a lot of 320kbps when its club music) i just simply convert it to WAV using a very old software since 2001 ''dbpoweramp....'', if not which i find in most of hiphop tracks i do a lotta editing with my creative recorder....... then i burn them on cd's for my car. Lately my collections have been going tooooooooo much...  its like i need lotta cds (Cuz the club music are HUGE files & long like they're average of 7 mins).
My car plays mp3 files(i drive the 2008 altima it has a bose sysytem) so i was thinikin i'll do wat i use to do but after recording/editing them now i will just convert them back all to mp3 & save time. So for club collections i have like average 10-11 tracks per cd & for hiphoip 18-19 tracks per cd, i just wanna do it like have Minimum of at least 2 collections for club music per cd  & 3-4 collections for hiphop per cd. And in future if needed fo some reason i can convert that any 1 collection to WAV for a normal cd.

Space isnt actually the issue, its the time dat i need to burn & etc.... & also it'll save me the hassle of keeping changin cd's in my car. But i just wanna have a very clear sound like i do currently for my collections, I just need the mp3 converstion to its very BEST QUALITY!!!

I know ive talked a lot here guys, but its just dat i needed to explain u all what's on my mind. SORRY.

Can someone really help me here...?

Plzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.....

Neeed it BADLY!!!

LAME is either a plugin (encoding library), or a commandline encoder. I don't know if you're fine with that or simply don't know what it is.

Link to get it is here :  http://www.rarewares.org/mp3-lame-bundle.php

Get the 3.98.2 version, the others are older or not tested.

If you simply want to encode one song at a time, a handy tool is lamedropXpd : http://www.rarewares.org/mp3-lamedrop.php

If you want to encode a CD, or multiple files, you should look for frontends or programs that have these abilities. Some here will suggest Foobar2000 or EAC, or dbpoweramp...
You could even do it with Winamp, if you had the Pro version. (They have to pay to license the encoder, that's why it's not free with Winamp).

If you still have the original downloads, then the best you can do is use those, since nothing can make them any better and many things could make them worse.

I'm not sure I completely understand your post. Do you not have the originals anymore? Do you have WAV files or just audio CDs made from the WAV files?

Do you need to convert WAV files or rip the CDs that you created from the WAV files?

You seem very keen about maintaining maximum quality.  Converting MP3 -> WAV -> MP3 is entirely contrary to that goal.  Please read this explanation of transcoding: http://wiki.hydrogenaudio.org/index.php?title=Transcoding

I know bout all dat bro, i understand.... But I just need to get the closest BEST quality thing possible, converting it back to WAV for a normal audio cd will really be like 1-2 chances out of 100. So lets put the converting back to WAV the last thing to think bout.

But that is exactly what you are trying to do. From your original post it sounds like you have already done the first part  MP3 -> WAV and now you are asking about doing the other part WAV -> MP3

Aight.....let me try my best to make it simple.  I need to have a software that converts wav to mp3, i need to have it done by the best possible way, so i wanna know that mp3 software to downoad which uses latest Lame encoding technology. I have a passion of making collections. I normally convert some mp3s (which are perfect quality) to wav & then convert the other mp3s (which are not that good quality) by editing the bass, treble, gain using my recorder......& then i compile the tracklisting & burn them as an Audio Cd. Lately ive been gettin LOT of stuff.... so its a hassle for burning so many cd's & to keep changin them in my car. So after i do all the usual editing & stuff... i wanna convert those Wav file back to mp3 so dat i could use 1 cd for 2-3 collections on it. And i do have lotta mp3s which are of perfect quality BUT the bitrate is VBR, so the VBR mp3s are good just to play for me but not to fast forward/rewind...my car's player can't do dat well... it just skips to next track most of da times. So those vbr files i wanna convert them to 320kbps.

I dont know how else i could make it more simpler....

Does anybody get what im ACTUALLY tryin to say & NEED???

@Buckchoi : No.. there's no DAT, just a user that isn't used to use "that" as a word.

@tpijag, cudaluvu : Let's keep the english language as the main one, not "dialects".

About converting VBR MP3 to CBR MP3, you can use MP3Packer (or it's frontend: Winmp3Packer )

About editing MP3 files: If you just need to change it's length, cut a session to different songs, etc.. you can use Mp3Cutter or Mp3DirectCut.

To adapt them to a similar volume, you can use Mp3gain

For any other modification (equalizing), you will have to convert to wav and then transcode to mp3 again. If you do this several times, you will definitely hear a degradation. Once may be ok.

In these latest case, you may simply use Audacity, with the lame library (It's in the bundle link i posted above). It's an audio editor. It can load the mp3, you can modify it, and then export to Mp3 again. (Just remind this still is transcoding).

No. Lossy is lossy. Lossless is lossless.

This question alone has only an answer, which is No. MP3 is lossy.

But in other contexts, it has other answers.

In the context of *this* thread, talking about lossless and mp3 means modifying the MP3 file in a way that does not need transcoding, and in some cases even being reversible changes..

Next, there is an attempt at creating and hybrid MP3 encoder that provides lossy and lossless. It's called MP3HD (search this forum). It works in a similar fashion than wavpack hybrid, optimfrog dualstream, or lossywav+correction file. With the single difference that the lossy part is standard mp3.

I do not recommend it.

People in this thread already suggested you many programs. Have you tried them?

You can lead a horse to water, but you can't make it drink.  I can't see this as anything but trolling at this stage...

MP3 at 320 kbps is the maximum theoretical quality you can get but it is overkill for 99% of people, think of reading a bit about VBR encoding and ABX testing. If you have the original WAV files you can convert them to MP3 using a software such as foobar2000 but if your files are already encoded to MP3, leave them the way they are, transcoding (you probably want to do some reading about it too) is a bad idea. Finally, please don't use slangs here, it is very annoying.

from your post what i can understand is that you donwload 320kbps and then you transcode them to WAV. I don't get this, you are converting a lossy file into a wav file which has the same quality as the 320kbps MP3 file, just that it's bigger. I would keep it in an MP3 file it's smaller and it has the same quality. One of our Hydrogen members posted a link about transcoding lossy to lossy and lossy to lossless and lossy to wave. when you lose quality with lossy you can't go back, that's why many people choose lossless, i rip all my music in FLAC and then i convert to MP3, vorbis or ACC depending on the device i'm going to use. I would edit and change the song in the MP3 format it's already in because you won't increase the quality of it by turning it into WAV. Just keep it the way you donwloaded and that way you can fit hundreds of songs in a single CD.

Thnxxxxx very much to all you guys for the detailed explanation.
Appreciate it.

Just 1 last clarification though.... whats the difference in Stereo & Joint-stereo. While I convert to mp3 320kbps, what should i choose "Stereo" or Joint-Stereo"????
