The Amazon mp3 store does. They now mostly use Lame 3.97 or 3.98.2 at -V 0 --vbr-new or --abr256 respectively. You may still come across some FhG encoded files (at 256kbps CBR). However, you are more than likely going to have a great deal of difficulty ABXing Fhg at 256kbps CBR due to the high bitrate. It has been a couple of months since I last purchased an FhG file or a Lame 3.93 file. Amazon used to have the following encoding settings (it seemed like it was random in their choice of setting):
Lame 3.93 at 256kbps CBR forced stereo Lame 3.97 at -V 0 --vbr-new joint stereo Lame 3.97 at -V 2 --vbr-new (I have one free sampler encoded at this) joint stereo Lame 3.97 at -V 2 --vbr-new -Y (I have one free sampler encoded at this) joint stereo Lame 3.98.2 at --abr256 joint stereo FhG (don't know which version) at 256kbps CBR forced sterreo Not it appears that they are using 3.97 at -V 0 --vbr-new or 3.98.2 at --abr256 as I haven't downloaded a 256kbps CBR file in a long time. The last album I purchased was Hatebreed - For The Lions and the songs were encoded at -V 0 --vbr-new with 3.97. |

Bleep used to sell LAME VBR but I think they have moved over to 320kbps MP3s + FLAC/WAV for the most part.

LaLa music uses LAME, but I have found a small number of recordings that were not LAME encoded.

Beatport sells, among iTunes AAC and WAV files, LAME 3.97 MP3s (CBR 320, forced stereo)

The Amazon mp3 store does.... Does anyone know how can anyone buy from Amazon from outside the US? I have been subscribed to eMusic for almost two years and I have been happy but there is some stuff they don't sell and I would like to get legally. -------------------- I'm the one in the picture, sitting on a giant cabbage in Mexico, circa 1978.

At least with Visa, Master Card and some others I think. I've ordered many CDs and a book from there.

At least with Visa, Master Card and some others I think. I've ordered many CDs and a book from there. Buying actual physical stuff from them has never been a problem in almost 10 years I've been a customer of theirs, even when having stuff sent to addresses other than the billing address. But I want to buy MP3s from them and they require a card issued in the US. I don't really see a point to this, but its their prerrogative. I still would like to buy MP3s from them, and what I asked was if someone knew of a way to do it without a US-issued credit card. In my experience: Amazon, Beatport, Lala.com, eMusic, Napster. The problem is that encoding level/version isn't consistent throughout the entire library on any service (but all songs are V2 at the least).

In my experience: Amazon, Beatport, Lala.com, eMusic, Napster. The problem is that encoding level/version isn't consistent throughout the entire library on any service (but all songs are V2 at the least). I have been a subscriber to eMusic for two years. Up to last month, when they downgraded plans/increased costs, I had the 200 tracks a month plan, so I have downloaded a lot. I also have downloaded electronic music, metal, folk, blues, rock, classical, pretty much all styles of music from them, also from albums both old and new. Most of their encodes I have found to be 3.96 at V2, the earliest version I have found they have used is 3.92. I even downloaded a 160 CBR encode from them, although right now I can't seem to find it in my hard drive (perhaps I didn't like the music that much and deleted it Hope this helps. -------------------- I'm the one in the picture, sitting on a giant cabbage in Mexico, circa 1978.
