I'm new to Ogg Vorbis encoding. I would like to know if the current recommended Vorbis encoder in HA's Vorbis wiki refers to the aoTuV Beta 5 (2006-10-24) version or does it mean the latest beta in the 5.x series, i.e. Beta 5.7 (2009-03-03).

The wiki page needs to be updated. I will take a look at it today and fix it. Before the community would review the newer forks and test them out. Now it's hard to find people to do that so it's usually taken with a grain of salt that the latest one is good enough. Their have been so many updates to AoTuV that it's tough to keep track of. Many of them need to merged back into the mainline (I should mention something about that in the wiki). I think I read someplace here that auToV 5.7 was merged into LibVorbis 1.3.1
EDIT: I found these two links: Oggenc 2.8.7 (using LibVorbis 1.3.1) [Command line] http://rarewares.org/ogg-oggenc.php#oggenc-libvorbis OggdropXPD 1.9.0 ((using LibVorbis 1.3.1) [Drag-n-Drop] http://rarewares.org/ogg-oggdropxpd.php#oggdrop-libvorbis This post has been edited by RazorBoy143: Jul 17 2010, 23:55 |

Then the OP should just go to this website to get auToV Beta 5.7. BTW: I wonder what's taking so long? |

Xiph is pretty slow with merging patches. You really have to bug them and then keep on it. I assume its a small organization with a few overworked people.
Edit: At least that was my impression, I'm not with them, so I could be wrong. This post has been edited by saratoga: Jul 18 2010, 05:27 |
