Hello everybody,

i expericence the same problem as here, but i have no solution until now.

the message "library file could not be written (bad allocation)" comes up periodicly, but randomly anyhow, when foobar is started and i do much with my playlists (i.e. adding files, tagging a lot)
(i might be wrong, but i remember the message "playlist file could not be written (bad allocation)" came up sometimes too)

it comes up, after i load files from a network-folder into a playlist.
it comes up, wile shutting down foobar2000 (v1.1)
it comes up, after i pressed F5 to update the files in a big playlist.

as told in the thread,

i did save my playlist and got no error. (97MB size, with *where can i see, how many files are in the library?* a lot of files)

i checked my database for files with coverart, but did not found any.

i'm running on W7 32bit (3.4GB RAM), but the problem occures on XP 32bit (3.4GB RAM) too. (i use portable mode and copy the program-folder of foobar from XP to W7 and vice versa. also with portable mode turned off, the problem comes up.)

i see that the foobar.exe uses 1.139.780K virtual memory from my ram and i have about 900MB free RAM

anyone a idea on how i can check for a solution?

The forum guidelines tell you to paste the list of components to help people to help you. Your memory use is super high and it wouldn't surprise me if it went over the 2GB limit during save and cause the error.
Is that 97 MB playlist with your files saved in FPL format or something else?
Oh and you can see how many files you have by opening Library \ Search and type 'ALL' to the search field. Window title will tell you the info.

It took a while, because i had to download/install some symbol packages for the "How to debug high CPU usage"-Topic in the forum rules to use with process explorer,
and, unfortunately, the discogs plugin seems not to work theese days, so i cannot modify/update my database/tags to reproduce this error.

the error mostly came up while or after i modyfied a lot of files (updating the tags) with the plugin foo_discogs and the foo_freedb2.
or, in other words, after i reorganized my database a lot (moving/renaming files on the server, adding/updating tags, re-read the files into the db).
some local drives are configured to monitor changes while running, while the network-shares are not monitored automaticly, beause foobar then "kills/slows down" my network.

I also tried to remove some plugins which i guessed to modify the database in background, while i worked with foobar, but the problem remains.

Deleting the db and let foobar recreate it did not solve the issue.

I hope, the provided Info can point out something.

QUOTE (Case @ Oct 23 2010, 22:06) *
Is that 97 MB playlist with your files saved in FPL format or something else?

should be FPL, i used the "normal" way to save it.
thanks.

are those informations not useful/helpful?
i still have this issues and can only get rid of it by deleting the library-db.
this, of course, helps only a short time (some days, maybe a week)

meanwhile, in another universe, i figured out (with longtimetesting) that those plugins are the cause of all (my) evil:

QUOTE
foo_dop
foo_httpcontrol
foo_podcatcher
foo_playlisthistory
foo_touchremote
foo_upnp

if i remove them, foobar and its media library works fine.

if one of those plugins is active, foobar shows all the problems i mentioned in the first posts.

as i cannot live without those excellent plugins,
what can i do?
go to the corresponding thread in this forum and try to point the developers to my probem. ok.

how could they help?
i don't know, but i will try.

if there is any help here, please let me know.

oh no!
today, i created 3 new playlists and imported big network-folder from my nas with music-files, while i played arount renaming/retagging files on that nas.

after the import (menu->files->import folder) was ready after about 3 hours, foobar throwed out the same message while if exited it.

playlist/library couldnt be written....

a neverending story...

I often see this error

Library file could not be written (Insufficient system resources).
If you choose 'cancel', your recent library changes will be lost.

Any other programs do not have a problems with writing files to disk

Looks like I have solved this problem on my PC after adding to registry following values:

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Memory Management]
"PagedPoolSize"=dword:ffffffff
"PoolUsageMaximum"=dword:0000003c
