Windows 7/Vista file association issues

Are there any plans to fix the file association issues under Windows 7/Vista?

A few of the problems encountered:
  • "Play in foobar2000" and "Play All" don't work in the Music library (Windows 7)
  • MP3, WMA etc don't have the "Enqueue in foobar2000" context menu option and still have "Add to Windows Media Player list" present

I believe I'm not the only one affected by these issues (there are many threads discussing them). I'm also aware that there are workarounds for some of these problems.

I don't have any problems with the enqueue/play context menu items (but I don't have windows media player installed on my Windows 7)

But I do have problems with the play all/play in foobar2000/play selection buttons from within the windows 7 music library; works fine with the same files when accessed by usual folder structure.
Is there a known workaround for this problem?

I would also love to have this fixed. I really like the view of albums that Windows 7's Music Library provides, but don't like that I can't use foobar to play the files without opening the album and explicitly selecting all the files to open in foobar2000.

To remove these you have to disable access to WMP in: Control Panel\Programs\Default Programs\Set program access and computer defaults

There is literally nothing fb2k can do about this considering this is how Microsoft decided to design their operating system.

Does that also apply to the "play all" button in the windows music library??

I think so, even VLC/MPC-HC cannot wrestle this feature from WMP's grasp without disabling WMP. I think there is an issue that could be fixed in Foobar though, the right click play and add to playlist(enqueue) context menus for album folders in the Music library in Windows 7 work fine with VLC and MPC-HC alongside WMP, so presumably it should be possible for Foobar also (although you can work round the issue by right clicking the library, go into properties & changing optimization to general or documents).

Those other programs work because they don't have shell extension handling file associations. The things you mention worked with foobar2000 too before the shell extension was implemented. I have begged Peter to look into it but so far there have been other priorities.
