wrong/failed playback of mp3 on CD/mp3 players Options

Hi All,

I quite often meet, both on my car audio/microtower (pretty good, Onkyo) with mp3´s (on burnt CD´s) - some whole albums, songs or their parts are playbacked with long pauses, some songs or even whole albums are skipped. Does it depend on the chip which likely cannot read them? All these mp3´s can be easily played on computer both from CD/HD. I tried to eliminate all possible sources of this behavior - have good quality CD´s, burn with max. speed 10x (Ashampoo), tags are only ID3v1+2.3. Recently I noticed, that files with CBR 320 + (I did not even know-EncSpot shows CBR up to 390-isn´t that an artifact?), and none of these songs is read, the whole album just skips song by song with 0 sec of any sound. Does the proper function or ability to playback all "good" mp3´s depend also on the type of encoder, VBR/CBR or how high CBR/VBR is?

Any thoughts?

I know, I have deleted all text/picture files, but did not help. The new installed player in a car of my colleague can playback all files I have experienced in my older radioplayers with no problems.

All names without any special characters. I use always tags id3v1 and id3v2.3, so why should some cause problems and most not? Anyway, i will try remove all tags...

No, also CBR 320.

Some years ago there were mp3 players that could not handle 320 kbit frames (buffer size problem I think). Some versions of LAME have also generated frames that required a larger buffer than some decoders could handle. If you have the lossless source for these files, try encoding again and adding the -B 256 switch for vbr files, or encode as cbr 256.

Could disabling the bit-reservoir be another potential workaround?
And if the player can handle 320 kbps frames but chokes on ones made larger by bits carried over from others, this would enable higher quality than permitted by an upper limit of 256 kbps (not that I expect it to be audible, etc. ).
