From early 1959, "Belafonte at Carnegie Hall" I know most of you on this board aren't old enough to remember 1959, but I was a teenager and I remember. This was a landmark recording. The first I ever heard "on location" (outside of studio) recording that actually had good sound. Heck, it had GREAT sound! Okay, now I need to find a CD version and see if the magic is still there.... Woody Didn't think I'd see this. Dad had this on open reel in Germany in the 60's. Love it! I have the cd and "Return TO Carnegie Hall". So mine is The Flowers Of Romance - Public Image Limited. |

U2 - The Joshua Tree.
This album impresses me on a number of levels, the emotional depth in the song writing, the instrumentation/ambience, the cohesiveness from start to finish, no weak songs, the engineering, etc. U2/Langois/Eno created something magical here. It also had a huge reception at the time and was pretty different from what was mainstream pop at the time. I also find it amazing where it came from as in my view U2 a couple of albums previous just weren't anywhere near this deep or polished. |

Liquid Tension Experiment's album of the same name. Dream Theater's Metropolis part II: Scenes From a Memory is very close behind.
