NEWBIE Q: EAC to AAC via WAV (NERO AAC Codec)

New HA member, first-time poster, asking (what is likely) a dumb question unsure.gif

I used this helpful guide to ripping CDs to convert to AAC for use in iTunes. Everything went as described, with one exception. When I went into the folder to view the files, they were still in WAV format. I thought they would be in AAC format--did I miss a step? Or should I just import them into iTunes and let it convert them to AAC?

According to the listeneng tests Apple AAC encoder is better
