EAC defeat cache / error checking problem?

In the newest version of EAC on my LITE-ON LTR-16102B drive, the drive stops responding every time EAC engages error checking. I can press the tray button to wake up the drive, but it will stop again the next time error correction happens.

This problem does not happen with old version of EAC on the same drive, nor does it happen with CUERipper.

Is this an EAC bug or some problem on my end / configuration?
