Hi,
I'm exploring options away from the apple software I've been using for years. One of the features that is very important to me is the "Keep my media folder organized" and "Copy files to folder when adding to library". Basically when I open a music file from any other location it will automatically open itunes and copy the file into a categorized folder in my library. Even if I right click and open from a web source it will open itunes and place a copy of the file in my library. This saves me from having to go to the menu and click "add to library" and then tell it where I want it. Will FB2K do this as well if it's set as the default player? Thanks! |

This has been discussed in the last couple of days. The short answer is that automatic synchronisation of metadata and filenames/folders is not possible but manual refreshing is.
FWIW, I agree that it’s one of iTunes’ best (or, if you prefer, few redeeming) features, and it would be nice to see in fb2k. I can’t speak for whether it’s something that would be easy or desired by the devs, though. This post has been edited by db1989: Feb 12 2013, 20:33

Thanks for the response. I was really hoping it was already included. Since it's not currently an option I believe it would be best for me to wait before attempting an complete migration. I'll definitely keep an eye on the FB2K site for any updates in the future.
Thanks for the help! This post has been edited by db1989: Feb 12 2013, 20:42
Reason for edit: deleting unnecessary full quote, which also contained broken link

I'm new to Foobar2000 as well... got sick of iTunes on my work computer, running Windows 7. I've got the same question about adding files to your library and keeping the folder organized... the link you posted seems to point to the wrong thread. Would you mind checking that out for me? I searched titles of recent threads and couldn't find one regarding folder/files management.
Thanks in advance. This post has been edited by db1989: Feb 12 2013, 20:33

the link you posted seems to point to the wrong thread. Would you mind checking that out for me? Thanks for letting me know. I somehow omitted the last number from the URL. I’ve fixed the link. It may not seem directly relevant at first, but note that discussion about renaming begins at post #3.Edit: I seem to have misunderstood what the OP here was asking, as the mention of iTunes and the recency of the other thread made me think of automatic renaming instead, but the answer is much the same: fb2k won’t automatically add played files to the Media Library, for the latter works on the basis of a list of folders whose contents it monitors or re-checks when requested. I actually think that's a good thing Foobar doesn't auto add. Sometimes I want to play a sound clip or something and if I were using iTunes, it adds it to my library. Then I have to delete the file which is annoying.
Before I would have to right click > open with Windows Media Player just to try a song or clip. |
