Hi,

I am using Free Audio Converter to encode AAC's for my portable player. I am looking at using quality based encoding. Free Audio Converter has quality set in percentage from 10% to 500%. However, I see when it is discussed here people are using values like 0.18, 0.21 etc. Let's say I want 0.21 quality, what would that be in perecentage like Free Audio Converter uses, and how can I "convert" from one to the other?

I am not sure what Free Audio Converter is doing but it sounds like it is using non-standard jargon. The different -q values that you see here are for use with the Nero AAC encoder. I don't know what AAC encoder Free Audio Converter uses, what settings it offers, or anything like that. My advice is that you ditch that program in favor of foobar2000, you can use Nero's AAC encoder with foobar2000 as well (you can use the different -q values then).

I would download that application and install it myself but there are dozens of applications all with that same name. However, there is plenty of support here for foobar2000. Hence my recommendation to download and use it instead. Additionally, foobar2000 has a built-in ABX tool so that you can determine which setting is right for you. You are the only one who has your ears, you are the only one who has your equipment, and you are the only one who has your music. We can't tell you what your ears hear.
