So, is the difference between the sound quality of Quicktime Q127 TVBR and Higher bitrate (224 kbps and above) itunes VBR really that high to take the plunge on using the later?

Are you trying to ask if you should use iTunes or QuickTime for your encoding needs? It is all up to you. Personally, I wouldn't mess with QuickTime Pro on Windows as it is an extremely lengthy process just to get one true VBR AAC file from it. Just stick with QuickTime.
Now, if you are on Mac OS X, it is up to you. As previously suggested, a series of blind ABX tests will help you with the decision.
