Full Version: AC3 6Ch -> Wav2Ch

Hi,

I want to rip the Audio from a DVD concert.
Originally, my intention was to rip the 2Ch Audio by using DVD Decryper and then encode it with Nero.
The problem is that on this DVD, the 2Ch audio includes the background comment which explains the whys and the hows.
As a result, the only choice to have a clean audio is to use the 6Ch AC3.

The stream results with DVD Decrypter are .VOB, and I have a problem to encode .VOB with any program.
So, I did the extract using VobEdit, the file came out as .ac3, which is better, although I lose all the chapters split, basically I can only get a single big .ac3 file.

I encoded this file with both ProCoder 2.0 and Nero, I got a wav file of 1GB, but when I tried to open it, it does not work, very strange because the file properties are ok but there is no audio in it!
If I play the source file .ac3, it plays perfectly.

Why cannot I succeed to encode the .ac3 in wav 2ch?

Thank you
Alex

there are thousands of guides available!

or here:
although for DTS -> x Format, the splitting is for AC3 -> any format the same.

Split files at chapters when you rip. You could probably demux the ac3 to a seperate file at the same time.

Then downmix to 2 channels with headac3he or besweet.

Well, the best option when ripping the file is given by DVD Decrypter because it allows to get the filles splitted by chapter, as you say.
Although the files are audio 6ch ac3, the file extension is .VOB, shock1.gif
Why?

However, I tried to encode one of the files in Nero 7, I can Add the file, choose the output format, set PCM .Wav Stereo 44100 as frequency, 16 Bits, it does the conversion but when I go and listen to it, the sound is only a very noisy flat signal.
This I cannot explain.

On the other hand, as I said in my original post, ProCoder2 fails even to start the encoding, either I start from the ac3 or directly from the DVD Video source, no way, it fails.

I can have a try with headac3he or besweet but I am very skeptical, if the other two programs failed, there must be a reason behind it. headbang.gif

Comments are welcomed.

OK, at least I know why all the programs fail to encode, I believe...

Tried headac3he, I changed the extension of all the files in .ac3, for all of them, I get the same error when starting the encoding process:

Bad Syncword at frame 3! The AC3 strea is probably corrupt.

Ideas?

Thanks

Tried to fix with AC3Fix, but already the "fixed" file plays bad, double speed.
So, the trick doesn't work.

The question is: Why do I get a corrupted file when ripping the DVD with DVD Decrypter? headbang.gif

Can anybody help?

Thank you

I'm more familiar with smartripper than dvddecrypter. You should be able to demux the ac3 to a seperate file (an ac3 file). The problem is you are getting a .vob out of this. You might just be missing something simple.

I know in smartripper it would be:
*set file splitting to every chapter
*enable stream processing
*highlight the ac3 stream
*select demux to file
*uncheck the rest of the streams

I would think it would be similar with dvddecrypter.

But if you have all seperate vob files, you can:
a) demux the ac3, then convert
b) convert via directshow (ie. using ac3filter, can even rig up dbpoweramp to do it)

Good luck smile.gif
