Why do I have to sign in twice every time I use this site, I put my username and password in, but then I have to do it again. This is quite annoying.

i don't. check your browser config.

also, letting us know more details than "it's broken" is usually better for you in the end.

Hi there, new here. I don't know if this is standard procedure but I registered on October 13 and proceeded to activate the account on the same day. But when I tried to login, a get a message that my account is suspended until October 18, that is today. Why is that?

Probably because of the email provider you have. This is to hinder spammers registering with dummy addresses and going on a spamming spree (some apps will let you create a new address with certain providers and immediately start spamming with it, as one evil automated process).

I use gmail. I thought gmail is quite secure. What sick person would have the time to spam? And what sick person would even take the trouble to develop an automated process just to spam?

Yes, GMail accounts will need a cooling off period before being able to post.

We get spam on the board most days. I have seen a demo video of a piece of software that will create a new email account and then start using it to register and post on numerous forums. The argument was that the practise was not spamming (unsolicited email) and that the software tried to post in forums with names like "Spam", "Off Topic", etc., so as not to be too intrusive.

As a moderator who has to clean up after these things I have a slightly different opinion. smile.gif Thankfully the members here are vigilante, and report spam quickly, so it tends to be removed quite quickly (we have moderators in various timezones).

Anyway, welcome to the board. smile.gif

Thanks for the warm welcome. I think I'm gonna enjoy this site. BTW, I have this tag that other new members don't have, " Warn: (0%) ----- ". What does this mean?
Synthetic Soul
Everyone has one - members can only see their own.

This is your warning meter - if you break the TOS you may be issued a warning. Too many warnings and you may be banned, or suspended. Obviously, for most people banning is never an issue. However, you may at sometime get a warning if you forget yourself. In this instance pay attention to the warning, but take it as just that: a warning. Learn rfom it and move on.

Moderators and admins can see everyone's "warnometer", and we use them to issue - or revoke - warnings, and to view a member's warning history.
