Full Version: Send audio to center/rear speakers only?

I have had an ongoing problem which i have yet to find an acceptable solution to, i was hoping someone could help me.

Basically my problem is as such. I have my headphones going into the main output/front speaker output jack of my soundcard. I have my speakers going into either the center or rear outputs. I want to make it so that i can send the audio from windows media player only to the speakers, not to the headphones. I have made this work before using SRS labs circlesurround, but this is not what i want, because it ruins the sound on certain songs trying to make them seem like surround sound. I have the adapt-x plugin that lets me use directx audio DSPs, but i cannot find one suitable to what i want. The only one installed that could do this is FFDshow, but when i enable the mixer and change the outputs, nothing happens. The other effects of the processor all work, but i cannot change which channels to send the audio to.

Is there any other ideas someone has to do this? i know its a bit of an odd request, but it allows me to talk on skype/Teamspeak and listen to music at the same time. I have a DFI lanparty ut nf4-ultra D motherboard with the onboard sound if it matters. It is a 5.1 system with nvidia drivers.

usign foobar (audio player) with DSP named 'move stereo to rear channels' would be one way.

Better tagging capabilities? You're joking right?

have you used it with vista? it is far easier to tag multiple tracks at once with it. i admit that foobar has more features and such, but the new wmp with vista is designed for organization. plus i dont have to use playlists to see all my music, which is something i dont really like with foobar.

A better option might ba a 2nd soundcard for the headphones. If you're just going to use it for phone/voice, you should be able to pick-up a cheap stereo soundcard for $10 or less.
