hi all i have a little problem, if i play a new 3D game (for example Planetside) and use winamp 2.91 (without any dsp just simple directx output) and the FPS ingame drop under a given value, winamp slow´s down the playback and also add crackling clicking artefacts at playback. If i for example watch in skys/ground and the fps goes up again all work fine again, if i look at normal scene (with many trees) winamp start slowing sound again...

I also notice that it dont happend with every MP3 file i notice that its much worser with VBR files but im not sure here.

So some1 have a setting for using winamp with games? I mean i have a 2.5 Ghz Athlon Xp and winamp never takes more than 0% in taskmanager so it should be possible to playback MP3 and game at once....

I also tested Foobar2000 but it had the same problem and i dont know all settings in that app.

So maybe some1 can tell me a player with a nice playback/cpu time code or just a player who might work? Or a setting?

found the problem but teh sulotion is realy strange...

I was thinking winamp dont has enuff cpu time but its so that planetside dont seems to have enuff and cause the problem. If i set ps.exe to high priority at task manager the sound dont slow down. But winamp is than often not to be able to play sound and just stop playback full sad.gif

BUT foobar2k is able to handle playback even if ps.exe is in high cpu state!

That makes 1 more user for the foobar comunity! Seems teh decoder code is much better coded than winamp so he can still playback mp3 even if it has nearly no cpu time. I still dont understand why setting foobar to high dont work but rather set ps.exe to high and leave foobar at normal work.... whatever it work now and im a happy foobar user now.

I was going to suggest seeing how many streams your sound card could do but I guess you figured it out.

...and I have to say it....

"Don't cross the streams. It would be very bad."

P.S. PlanetSide is fun, no? I suck at the game (and first person shooters in general), but there is something moving about seeing 10 Galaxies lined up accepting loads of MAXes, infantry, and vehicles to go defend some continent.

Makes me want to play "Ride of the Valkryies" (shades of Apocalypse Now) while playing.

my sound card can stream up to 98 streams and hardware mixing work, thats at least what foobar reports at the directx output setting.

PS: btw what is teh diff. between directx/kernel/wave output settings?
