Full Version: Help! mp3cue "not loaded"

Hi guys,

I've got a problem. mp3cue always used to work - now I have re-installed Windows and of course had to reinstall Winamp.

And whatever I do, after the mp3cue "installation", the gen_mp3cue.dll will appear as "not loaded" in Winamp's General Purpose plugin list.

I have tried uninstalling Winamp totally, deleting the gen_mp3cue.dll, and so on... it just doesn't work, I can't get it to run.

Any ideas?

sounds like broken dll references.
guruboolez
an idea.

I had the same problem after reinstalling Win98SE. Plug-in not loaded.
The problem : DirectX7
Upgrade to Dx 8, and mp3cue will work again.
Volcano
Thanks.

guruboolez: I have DirectX 8.1 already, there's not much to upgrade smile.gif Thanks anyway.

Peter: How do I fix "broken DLL references"? Do you mean the registry values that are assigned to DLLs if they are registered (by regsvr32 or whatever it's called)?

gen_mp3cue.dll probably contains hard references to some DLLs you don't have (or there's some other reason for it not to load correctly; sounds like bad programming to me). if you can upload/post your gen_mp3cue.dll file, i'll run dumpbin stuff and see what dlls might be missing.
btw, you are using win95/98/me, aren't you ?
Volcano
Thanks for your help, I have sent you the file via email.

What I forgot smile.gif: Yes, I am using Windows 98.

looks like it's "msvcp60.dll". complete gen_mp3cue reinstall should fix it; if it doesn't, you should complain at gen_mp3cue authors. other "weird" dll refereces are: shlwapi.dll (seems to be an OS component but i've never seen anything using it before), msvcrt.dll (standard msvc runtime library, bundled with all windows versions except for really old win95 setups).
Volcano
Thanks again for your help!

I have tried that before - it's not really installed, it's just a little Pimp package (not even NSIS), this msvcp60.dll obviously doesn't come with it.

OK, I'll write about this to Jon, then.

PS: But it's weird that I'm the only one having trouble...
Peter
you can try this for now (put it in windows/system).

Dominic,

No, you're not. In my previous Win98/98SE systems I had this problem constantly with every mp3cue/Winamp version. Everything was installed and ok, but mp3cue just didn't appear on the general plugins section of Winamp configuration menu. An incrediable stroke of luck was required in order to get the bugger working.

Finally I got so tired of that problem that I just dumped mp3cue completely. However, great thing if zZ is right and the problem is indeed "msvcp60.dll". Maybe I can start using this otherwise fine piece of software again biggrin.gif.

well, this isn't exactly a problem with win98; i guessed that you're using some sort of win9x because my win2k always shows detailed error messages about broken dll refereces while all win9x versions just fail silently. looks like that dll isn't bundled with win98 (it definitely isn't present in my fresh win98 setup) and it is probably bundled with some newer os's (my win2k has it, but it might have been isntalled by msvc6 setup as well). anyway, mp3cue authors are to blame, they should either stop using that dll, or include it with mp3cue setup.
blah.

Since this silly Win98 was playing up on me, even though the installation was just a week old smile.gif (dunno what caused it), I have switched to Win ME - and now, mp3cue works. The MSVCP60.DLL actually is present in the WindowsSystem folder.

Many thanks for your help, Peter!

PS: Don't get me wrong, I didn't switch over to WinME just because of mp3cue wink.gif

I'm not sure if this is of interest but I've had the same problem under Windows XP - however a couple of other software installs later (other apps) it seemed to have remedied.

Probably the MSVCP60.DLL file was installed by another application.

I think that the plugin probably needs to be re PiMP'ed. wink.gif
