When AAC+ will be relased? I just tested Nero AAC for low bitrates - it sucks.

BTW. Latest Nero AAC ~128kbps sounds worse for me than Ogg Vorbis GT3b1 ~128kbps (high bitrates). I can`t w8 for AAC+...

Heh. Have you forgotten rule #8 already?

Samples and test results please..

How surprising... rolleyes.gif

Is this because you actually did some proper double blind testing and found it to sound worse, or simply because you dislike Ahead (as you've publically stated in the past) as a company and AAC because it's not "patent free" like Ogg Vorbis?

As a side note, I split this off topic post of yours out of the AAC listening test thread because it didn't belong there.
Cobra
Heh, not because I "dislike" Ahead...

I tested it on "Running Wild - Agents Of Black..." I`ll post samples L8R (I don`t have time now sad.gif)

EDIT: "(...) than Ogg Vorbis GT3b1 ~128kbps (high bitrates)." should be (high frequencies)
Cobra
I have three samples: wav, mp4, ogg - but each takes 2mb (FLAC) sad.gif

So i can only post mp4 and ogg files now:

You talked previously about ~128 kbps encoding. The files you sent are 100 kbps. That's a big difference... AAC isn't not very powerful compared to vorbis under 120 kbps. But at 120-130 kbps, it's totally different.

I talke both about low bitarates and 128knps, 128kbps will be l8r (lack of time).

And anybody knows when AAC+ ?

AAC+ is not intended for both 128 kbps & 100 kbps. SBR is a low bitrate tool, i.e. ~40-80 kbps.
Maybe 100 kbps will progress with SBR ? Must ask it to Ivan.

If I remeber right it's wasnt sure whether 96kbps CBR would allow SBR or not. Anything above 96k surely will not.
The highest VBR preset to allow SBR would probably be Radio or Internet, but that's my speculation only smile.gif

Well, it is not yet decided - but general conclusion is that SBR is usable up to 96 kbps for 44.1 kHz, stereo - in some tests SBR operating @96 kbps (downsampled mode - SBR - 88.2 kHz, normal AAC 44.1 kHz, not "regular" 44.1/22.05) performed very similar to AAC @128. Above that, little use.

Regarding VBR profiles - SBR could (and probably will) be used for tape, radio, internet and streaming where bit rate would be approx. 50% of their "lc aac" versions - i.e. ~60-70 kbps for "streaming" or 30-40 kbps for radio.

So AAC+ comparing (in sound quality) to Ogg Vorbis GT3b1 will be slightly better in low and high bitrates and slighlty worse in mid bitrates? How much will legal AAC+ Nero codec cost?

Well, I didn't say any of that, and making such conclusions without proper blind listening tests would be just plain guessing.

AAC+ will not be used for bit rates greater than 96 kbps, above that plain AAC will be defaulted. Regarding mid-bit-rates we would first have to define what the "mid" range is, and then perform serious double-blind tests.

Unfortunately I am not allowed to say that, and to be honest I really don't know smile.gif

Does anyone knows about the new iso reference software with SBR code will be available?
