Full Version: USB Sonica enhancement?

Hello,

I'd like to listen some music on my computer with headphone (at work essentially). Since the provided PC sounds horrible (on-board Dell sound), I want to add external USB sound (in order to bring it with me). I searched in this forum (and others like Headwize) info, specially regarding USB Sonica (price stays OK for me). But the feedbacks are rather mixed: some find it sounding very good, some just good (fortunately, never bad).

I think that a weakness of this device is that current is taken from USB bus and if others devices are on the BUS, less current is available. Plus, the current from the PC can be not so clean.... Hence my question, what if we use a powered HUB just for this device? Does anybody already tried this and can hear the difference (hopefully, gain)? Or can anybody make a try?

Thanks!

Just use its digital out and good external DAC. It should sound good tongue.gif

Well, in my opinion it's quite good compare to its price. Not pro quality, but good enough for listening to the music and DVD. If you want somewhat better, just buy Extigy with higher price off course.

I tried it and I couldn't hear the difference (with my extigy). I think the output quality will not different since the currect from the HUB also not better than the current from PC.
