Great. What about adding a lame 3.90.3 compile (+ modified version)?
Have you already registered the rep at apt-get.org?

i already submitted the repository to apt-get.org. it'll be maybe a day before it is recognized.
UPDATE: i just compiled (finally) xmms-aacplugin and it is available at the server now.
lame is already packaged (albeit 3.93) by christian marillat, so i don't plan on packaging it, no
later
I know marillat's xmms packages, but a compile of the stable HA.org approved 3.90.3 version would give me some peace of mind...

Is there a command line player like mpg123/ogg123 for AAC as well ? Or is the only way the sending of the output stream of faad to the audio device ?

Jun 15 2003, 08:37
lamip on sourceforge could play a command line files. take from cvs modules :
- lamip
- inputaac, inputmp3, inputogg
-outputoss
also it's a developpement version that i currently work on.. maybe it's will don't compile.. so if not be patient

UPDATE: LAMIP
ciberfred has been a busy bee, and much of lamip is ready to be tested.

lamip-controldefault
lamip-inputmp4
lamip-inputogg
lamip-inputwav
lamip-outputoss

UPDATE: FAAC, FAAD2, LAME
faac has been packaged for 1.18 (props go to knik, go to audiocoding.com for changes)
faad2 has been packaged more cleanly. if problems arise, install libfaad2-0 BEFORE libfaad2-dev
also, as requested (and for pleasure...) the recommended lame compile has been packaged and functioning quite remarkably (mp3rtp is absent from lame-extras, see source for an explanation).
although, due to a hairy dependency issue with christian marillat's packages that depend on lame 3.93, i've hacked my debian compile for 3.99.90.3 both in package version, and the ACTUAL BINARY will use 3.99.90.3. this seems crappy to me, but it is the best way i could derive -- especially when compiling your own software against lame (which some need >=3.92).
thoughts, recommendations, or blatant outrage is welcome - but if you offer no solution, (insert something duragatory here!)
also, the top post will be edited to reflect changes

Great news, Mike. Thanks a lot.
Shouldn't it be possible to compile/package lame 3.90.3 as ha-lame or something like that, so no compatibility issues arise (like
not_lame does) and you can use both versions at the same time?
dev0
xmixahlx

this is a possibility - and one i considered (i originally packaged it as lame-ha 3.90.3, etc.)
however, the shit hits the fan when other programs want to use /usr/bin/lame, and you can't have two programs in the same binary

(packaging it as lame-ha just changes the package name, and that doesn't begin to touch on the problems).
other options are:
1. install 3.90.3 into /usr/local/...
2. rename the actual built files i.e. /usr/bin/lame-ha
option 1 is actually realistic, but then $PATH gets all screwed up and to envoke any one version would be absolute path nonsense.
i am content in my hackerdom, although it seems ugly - it is functional.
if someone actually encounters a problem (i haven't yet) then yes, things will need to be changed.

UPDATE: LAMIP, XMMS-AACPLUGIN
lamip and all buildable software has been repackaged, new packages are:
. lamip-inputmp3
. lamip-inputaac
the xmms aacplugin now has a dynamic candidate. you will need libfaad2-0 (=1.1-0.0) to use this package (i.e. marillat's faad packages)
. xmms-aacplugin-shared
a static aacplugin (v0.4) is still in the works.

Isn't this exactly what the Debian alternatives system was designed to address?
yes, but packaging lame as multiple versions (read alternatives, not different software, just juggling different versions of software) requires collaboration between me and christian marillat to achieve something, that frankly, doesn't seem all that beneficial to me at this point.
i have also considered packaging lame as alternative or even diversion. i haven't decided what is best yet, and honestly... i don't see why i would need both versions on my system (3.93 and 3.90.3). how i hacked 3.90.3 hasn't produced any problems yet. (although it is early to be confident). considering that lame is an "illegal" package is quite coincidentally gravy for me, as i really don't need to worry about it - other than it being functional.
however, if i (or someone else...) wants to upkeep a completely seperate software package (as would be the case, a la notlame) from 3.90.3 it would be understandable and implementable. if people like the idea of adopting a forked lame package that uses only patches from upstream to keep "lame-ha" at whatever the community supports, then this situation is different entirely. we sort of already do this, but rather subversively. i will see what i can do to make it work more cleanly.
...i am still working on it. and if i come up with a perfect (read=better) plan of attack i will implement it, and/or ask for advice on it.

UPDATE: LAME-HA
ok, another bundle of lame packages to test! hooray!
packages are:
. lame-ha
. lame-dev-ha
. lame-extras-ha
. liblame0-ha
straight from the 3.90.3 sources (well, not really... plus some tinkering...) LAME-HA 3.90.3 is completely seperate from LAME 3.93 (or 3.99.90.3 or any other version, i.e. both can be installed, quite independent...).
packages are essentially:
/usr/bin/lame-ha
/usr/bin/mp3x-ha
/usr/lib/lame-ha/*
/usr/include/lame-ha/*
feedback on both lame offerings are VERY encouraged. even if you have something dumb to say, please PM me.

UPDATE: FAAD2, XMMS-AACPLUGIN
new faad2 build (1.99.20030707). faad2 v2.0 is (most likely

) less than 2 weeks away. after some brainstorming, ciberfred has merged his aacplugin into faad2 cvs and is supporting the new 2.0 API. for now, it is built with the faad2 cvs source tree.
the aacplugin is packaged as "xmms-aacplugin-cvs" and is dependent on these cvs builds of faad2 packages.(dynamic libraries)
after 2.0 is released, naming conventions of the xmms-aacplugin will go back to normal

and only a dynamic linked build will be offered. (unless objections...?)
read the rarewares-debian text file for updated info:

UPDATE: FAAC, FAAD2, LAMIP, LAMIP-INPUTMPC, XMMS-AACPLUGIN-CVS
new faac build from cvs (1.18.20030730). just fixes since 1.18 (and the last cvs snapshot)
new faad2 build (1.99.20030730). this build incorporates the newly released sbr code a la menno and his magic. my sources tell me that after testing, faad2 2.0 is close approaching... so test! (EDIT: and i now learn that this sourcetree was later deemed rc1)
lamip has had considerable progress. lamip-controldefault, the working ui at this point, has been revamped to actually support all the used-to-be inoperable features. repeat, open, playlist, add, remove, and id3tags all function. the more testers and people with simple yet operable ideas, the faster this is going to develop.
INTRODUCING LAMIP-INPUTMPC! i'm excited about this module/plugin. brand spankin new, and minimally functional.
XMMS-AACPLUGIN-CVS is severely broken at this point... if you are using these faad2 packages from cvs you might as well remove all aacplugins until a fix is available... work is being done hurriedly to fix it. in the meantime, the lamip aac plugin is working, so go get this from rarewares and/or sourceforge cvs!

UPDATE: LIBVORBIS, XMMS-MP4PLUGIN, XMMS-META-INPUT, FAAC, FAAD2
libvorbis 1.0.0+gt3b1 -- Garf's tuned vorbis libraries have been packaged.
xmms-mp4plugin 0.3-0test1 -- this is a plugin for testing, currently it is broken for aac input, but WILL decode sbr/he MP4 input files. (if you are wondering why it handles aac files... fred is going to be merging the mp4/aac plugins...)
the xmms-aacplugin is STILL BORKED.
xmms-meta-input is a clever little plugin that allows for simple shell scripts to be treated as input plugins. packaged with this is a MONKEY'S AUDIO PLAYBACK PLUGIN (shell script).
faac updated to 1.21.1 beta (plus cvs to 20030910)
faad2 updated to 2.0.0rc1 (plus cvs to 20030901)
more to come... soon (lamip, xmms/aac plugins)

ok, so i just wanted to give y'all a heads up regarding current situation:
* source server out of storage and online at same address (xmixahlx.dyndns.org/debian/)
* packages updated last night (releases i've missed since june, cvs, etc.)
* html not updated yet, i'll do that when i get time (almost done)
i received a lot of emails asking for source and wtf is up with my inactivity, so i hope this tidbit will calm some down
what sparked the inactivity? --> i moved back home after schooling and got a job in I.T. and had some medical issues to deal with...
sorry about the wait

Hi xmixahlx,
first of all i feel like i have to express that the debian rarewares repository is awesomely great and spares me an enormous amount of hassle i'd have to go into if it was not to exist, great work! And please keep it going.
When i updated my package list recently i found that new versions of packages in unstable depend on libc 2.3.4-1 instead of 2.3.2. Figure:
CODE
Depends: libc6 (>=2.3.4-1) but 2.3.2.ds1-20ubuntu13 is to be installed
Is that bump really necessary? it'd be even greater if your repository would work out-of-the-box for hoary.

xmixahlx refuses to use anything but the very latest bleeding edge development tools and libraries. That's why there are so many dependency issues in the Debian repository

Edit:
CODE
libfaac0: Depends: libgcc1 (>= 1:4.0) but 1:3.4.3-6 is to be installed

One solution would be to pass the --force-depends-version flag to dpkg. The packages should work as long as the version differences are as minor as this one. On the other hand, of course, using --force can cause major grief. Proceeding should be safe, but caution is advised.

wow... i really _haven't_ posted here since september?
anyways, my dev box has always been bleeding edge. but i don't see that being a problem when the repository is used correctly (read: as stated on the page).
however, i'll be talking to roberto and cabbagerat about this issue since it won't be a one man show anymore.

xmixahlx, have you discussed that issue with the other guys yet?
I am asking because, I was not able to install lamip or musepack-encoder, because of my libc6 which is sid and not experimental although I have added all additional repositories to my sources.list.

i began to transition RW/Debian to SID a few weeks ago and it's almost complete. (i.e. < 20 remain out of 250+ packages!)
i'll be doing some updates to RW/Debian HTML - actually doing it this time - which will reflect these changes (and be more compatible with the various debian-based distro users: i.e. ubuntu).
projects which are waiting are lamip and a few others lamip is not ready to package atm. i'm waiting for fred (aka ciberfred) to give me the go ahead for 0.0.3 release (which should be shortly).
you can resolve all dependencies by the following servers (in addition to RW/D)
deb
http://ftp.us.debian.org/debian/ unstable main contrib non-free
deb
http://ftp.us.debian.org/debian/ ../project/experimental main contrib non-free
deb
ftp://ftp.nerim.net/debian-marillat/ unstable main
deb
http://pkg-gnome.alioth.debian.org/debian/ experimental main
deb
http://pkg-kde.alioth.debian.org/kde-3.4.0/ ./

hmm, thought I had posted this already: thanks for your effort!

thanx for the support.
also, i have some good news. Free, the main developer of DeMuDi (being the better half of the Agnula Project:
http://www.agnula.org) and i have been in talks about integrating RW/Debian into the project. i'll update when news becomes available, and when the RW/Debian HTML is revamped it will have more details.
ok...
RW/Debian is now "fully" Debian Unstable... and this is a little lie.
all LAMIP packages still require experimental (and those repositories i posted last time). this will change when 0.0.3 is releasable (soon).
also, K3B requires dbus/qt packages from experimental. in the future, other software MAY use packages from experimental only when there is not a version in unstable.
i have setup an "alternate" experimental staging for those that wish not to use the full debian experimental repository (and so i can keep the functionality that i wish for RW/Debian).
it is (for now):
deb
http://rarewares.org/debian/packages/experimental/ ./

I still have a problem with installing lamip:
while trying to install Lamip-core in synaptic, I get the following error:
"lamip-core:
depends on: libcurl2 (>=7.11.2-1) but it is not installable"
I was not able to get this desired package from anywhere around the web, so... where can I get it, or how do I circumvent this?
the most recent package I found was "libcurl2_7.9.5-1_i386.deb".
edit: okay, finally I found a
working package - ubuntu, though.

mmm... libcurl2 was dropped from unstable in favor of libcurl3 (security issue)
until i repackage lamip, the ubuntu package will have to do

(which is fine, it is from debian/unstable, anyways)
also, the dbus/qt package that k3b needed from experimental entered unstable recently, so that, um..., issue has been solved.
later
just installed LAMIP 0.0.3 which supposedly has been repacked by you.. NICE1 - THX!
had to do it with dpkg and --force-all option, because of dependency-problems, though.

those lamip packages are from february CVS. i'll be repackaging lamip again soon (so, forcing dependencies won't be necessary)

xmixahlx, I recently found a site (German) where many, many nice multimedia-tools are listed. amongst other things some
transcoding-tools which are AFAIK despairingly requested by the community. at least I was lookig for them with a passion.
soundkonverter appeared to be very useful. the good thing and the advantage over self-made scripts is that it preserves tags (at least for FLAC>mp3, which I did test).
maybe the other tools can do the job equally good, dunno.
I thought, perhaps it would be possible to add some of them to the Rarewares-Debian repository.
maybe I inspired you. soundkonverter is available as a *.deb file. the others as tarballs or as packages for other distros. greets

there seems to be something wrong with the server-list for apt. I am not able to install lame 3.96 via apt, because the binaries, though listed, can't be downloaded.
I suppose it has to do with the information given about "Christian Marillat's Mult-Media Repository for Unstable" in the apt-pinning-section.
I tried "deb
ftp://ftp.nerim.net/debian-marillat/ unstable main" in my sources.list but got an error, now I use "deb
ftp://ftp.nerim.net/debian-marillat/dists...in/binary-i386/ ./" but get the problem mentioned at the top of my posting.
can someone provide the right adress of Marillat's server, please?
thanx in advance

okay, it seems to be like this: unstable was renamed to sid on the server. the new adress is ergo "
deb
ftp://ftp.nerim.net/debian-marillat/ sid main
"
could you please update the info on rarewares? thx
I wonder why there are so few problems with that.....
