I downloaded the new Adaptec aspi zip folder, opened it in the same download folder and - due to my acute ignorance- got lost pretty quick. While the old Forceaspi/aspicheck shows 4.60 for all- I'm not used to using anything else. Reading the file, I figured I was supposed to use install.bat (have windows me) but can't figure out how to get thru that- if I try to type in INSTALL.BAT X86. Obviously, I don't know jack about this stuff- sorry- but sure would appreciate your help. By the way- the aspicheck with the Adaptec program says two layers are 4.60- the rest blank. The old aspicheck shows four 4.60 layers as before. Any help much appreciated- sorry for my ignorance- thanks- cadabra3

okay- realized I have to run program from start>run- but then told can't find file. When I browse, I can find install.bat- screen comes up- says 'type any letter to continue' which I do- but then it won't allow me to write anything else without terminating- no error message. I ran aspiinst.exe- so those files show they are in- can you help me with the run command I need to get the rest to work? I'm not dumb- just mighty ignorant- thanks- cadabra3

Open an MS-DOS (or Command Prompt) session by clicking the icon (MS might have hidden it in the Accessories menu). Change to the directory you unzipped the files into, and then type INSTALL.BAT X86. The window will stay open so you can see what's happening (or not happening).

Tried with your suggestion- guess I'm too dumb to figure it out- shows me 'install.bat ...'
then shows choices (I have Me)
'press any key to continue'
when I press it says 'completed' but no change- and no way to put in the X86 specification. The next key touched brings up on seperate screen 'program terminated, check error messages'- but there are no error messages. I went thru the start/run/search for folder because was unsure how to get to the folder from the location you advised- dos prompt. Any other ideas/help would be much appreciated- sorry if I'm wasting your time- thanks- cadabra3
here's a copy of that screen- didn't know how else to do it- look in project mayhem folder

Case
Hit 'Start' and select 'Run'. Type "command" in the box and hit enter. Now go into the folder you unzipped the files. If you just executed the installer they are in c:adaptecaspi. So type "cd adaptecaspi" and hit enter. Now run the installer by typing "install x86" and hit enter.

Edit: It seems the install.bat only runs aspiinst.exe with option x86, so no need to do the steps above. Just start the aspiinst.exe from explorer.
