Full Version: Am I killing my headphones?

I plug them into my computer, and put it full blast so I can use them as speakers.

I plug it into the laptop since it's loud. I have no speakers right now and I just wanted the feeling of not having music less than an inch from my ear.... anyway, using my headphones as speakers, am I killing them? These are the headphones.

I have 30 days no hassle money back anyway if I am, so no worries. biggrin.gif

I'm doing this since buying PC speakers to waste them on laptop integrated sound(way worse than desktop integrated sound) is a waste, I can't get speakers or dump this POS and get a desktop with a real soundcard, or get a stereo, afford one, or have anyplace to put it. You get parents, etc... mad.gif

Can't be good

Yeah, you'll probably fry them before long since cranking them at full volume like that is likely feeding them a LOT of distortion/clipping. I would really recommend using them as intended until you can afford speakers. Your money back guarantee probably doesn't apply to misused product. You can't drive over them with a steam-roller and expect a refund from the store. wink.gif

I don't think a regular soundcard has enough power to damage such headphones, exept maybe those amplified Soundblaster with both line out and speaker out.
Anway, put the headphones on, if the sound is ok, the headphones are ok.

Thanks. smile.gif I'm not doing that anymore. I just needed to hear it not next to my ears for a while. biggrin.gif

They don't sound fried, so... good.

These are actually pretty good. I've heard expensive Sennheisers, and for $40, these sound awesome. Aiwa is great, much better than that $150 Sony garbage I tried in Best Buy with my portable. High quality doesn't mean quadrupling the treble of normal headphones.. *end rant*

Edit; the money back guarantee goes for everything within 30 days. I've had enough experience at this Best Buy to know that, that's why I prefer buying stuff retail when I can(well, except computer parts, newegg.com's selection is better than any retail store I've ever seen).

What I normally do, if I intend on using a product hard after purchase, is get a replacement plan. Best Buy affords this great 2-year replacement plan, no questions asked. I've been very lucky to have it, was only $20 with my iRiver player, and I've already used it twice (both times for a cracked/broken control unit).
