Full Version: wave out/NT4 playback problem

The following problem is persistent starting from version 0.586
and appears on both my machines (running NT4 sp6a)
like this:
If I doubleclick on a playlist-entry to change the title
currently playing I only hear a glimpse of the song, if
anything. Displayed time is not changing (0:00).
Stop and play is no use. Restart of fb2k doesn't help either.

If I shut down foobar, start another audio-player (e.g. mediaplayer) and then restart foobar, it sometimes helps.

setting output-type to direct-sound, then play (gives a loud
zapp) and, of course, an error-message (no direct-sound with nt4) then change back to waveout it works again (until next
double-clicking or stepping forward (sometimes))

there is some sound left within some buffer, because playing a new song I hear a tad from the one played before.

no problems at all with other sound-related programs

Has anyone else come across this problem?
(help is VERY appriciated!)
thank you

Is the console giving you any sort of messages?
linau
no output on the console, just the usual
Info(core): opening file for playback..
status bar shows the new song with the time remaining 0:00

Hmm. I don't have a clue what's going on there. Hopefully someone else will have some ideas. I seriously doubt you're the first person to run foobar on WinNT4.

I haven't come across this problem yet at work (P4 1.7ghz, 384Mb ram, nt4 with SP6a, Creative Labs SB 128). I know direct sound doesn't work. What sound card and drivers are you using?
linau
one soundcard is an old Mediavision 16pas (ISA!), using NT-built in drivers, the other is via onboard-sound of my PIII mainboard (686-southbridge) driver 4.03. I tried the Hyperion 4in1 4.46 driver, but I got distorted sound with any program.

I'm getting a new Computer with nforce2-sound at the moment, and it will be running NT4 as well, so things will get interesting soon (~1 week);-)
