Have a look there.

There seems to be good reasons to upgrade.

wonder if it will officially support ogg vorbis like they said it would?

You got to remember that even though Nero is a perfectlly good solution for burning, and no doubt it is the preferred program right now, it IS meant to be an all-around solution. Now with DVD burners, and Nero Digital and whatnot is was only natural. There are a lot of simpler solutions (and many are free). Just do not expect Ahead to back off from their plans of multimedia world domination.

I'm, for one, I'm thrilled and I won't judge until I see it.
So far, they haven't let me down (I have used Nero since 1998)
lazyn00b
I agree with AtaqueEG. Remember, a lot of vendors of video editing/dvd authoring software have been adding the dvd burning function right into their programs. In order for Nero to compete, it seems obvious that they need to add functionality to their software, too.

All I want is Nero to use UDF file system properly, use more the 64 characters!

Unlimited HE-AAC (mp4) encoding will be featured. For sure, that's a good think.

But, I was wondering if other formats will be supported. I mean, will we still have to add audio plug-ins (such as the ones made by Mausau)? Looks like we will...

One more small improvement I wish they have thought about is the automatic elimination of the 2 second gap between each audio track when burning a cd.

How often will updates be released?

Regarding HE AAC and, MPEG-4 in general - we plan to re-issue updates for every speed and/or quality update.

Is there any kind of information if this is the burning software witch comes with new CD burner and DVD burner after it's been released?
How does that HE-AAC encoder work? Can it encode over 128kbit and VBR and does SBR come with every bitrate?

EDIT: few typos i just found with litle help... I just read AAC+ ? thread from AAC General and i think my last questions are already answerred.

hi ivan,

i don't want to bug you (i know this has been asked before), but is there any chance, that we might see ahead/nero aac as standalone solution?

Sounds like it's a bundle of different apps, not bloated. That's a relief-- also means they'll probably also sell separate products.

west > All I want is Nero to use UDF file system properly, use more the 64 characters!

I wrote Ahead about that regarding 5.5

They said...

"You are limited to the Joliet file format which only supports up to 64 characters for file names... ... ... When Nero 6 comes out in late summer, it will support the ability to create files with file names larger than 64 characters"

I've moved on to Stomp RNM.

I guess the guy was wondering:
"Does somebody have information about whether Nero 6 (instead of Nero 5.5) is going or not to be provided with CD-R/RW or DVD-+R/RW drives after it has been released?"

Sounds clearer now, I hope. But sorry, mate, I don't have the answer.

Hey Ivan or Menno, I'm wondering does the mpeg4 video encoder that comes with Nero Digital or Nero 6 have the same capabilities as Xvid? I'm talking about the advance simple profile with vhq 4, lumi masking, chroma optimiser, GMC with more than 2 warp points, and etc. Will it all be there or will the mpeg 4 video encoder be a worse than Xvid? Thx

I am very interested to buy the Nero 6 upgrade $ 49.99 Dlls. I wish to Encode my music to AACplus or HE AAC.
But what player do I need to listen it??
Does NERO6 will includes an AACplus Player?

Hopefully soon someone will add SBR decoding capabilities to FAAD. wink.gif

All we need is a programmer willing to implement it.

Then, you will be able to play it on Foobar, Winamp, QCD, XMMS...

Anyway, yes, NeroMIX will surely be able to play it.

It is not BLOAT if they allow us to choose what we like to install and what we are NOT (like Winamp) .It seems that each program is independent, so biggrin.gif

We are considering this option, there is a chance - just some technical and licensing issues need to be reviewed.

If this version is bundled with burners, I'd prefer buying a new burner+Nero6 than buying just Nero 6

Exactly!, heh, i can get a burner for $50-$60 with Nero 5.x included...

does that mean i get a free 52x burner if i order nero from the homepage? tongue.gif

Keep in mind that some bundled (OEM) versions don't offer all the retail version features. Besides, often you get an outdated version with the drive.

I remember I got PowerDVD 2.55 with my LG 8160 DVD drive, and I bought this drive few months ago. biggrin.gif

I got a recent version of Nero with my LiteOn.
And PowerDVD 4 with my DVD drive, which I bought a while ago.

Edit: But I like the idea that you get a free drive to the software you buy. laugh.gif

as nero6 will offer the possibility to transcode from dvd (mpeg-2) to mpeg-4 (both audio and video) will there be ac3 decoding implemented (first decoding to wav and then to aac+ is very time and space consuming and not really newbie friendly)?

Well - I'll left you guys to figure that out when Nero Digital comes out smile.gif

If you want to have an idea about the capabilities of the video encoder, you should try to gather info about Ateme encoders (even if Ateme is more often writing code for dsp than for general purpose computers)
Gabriel
For some of the features:
http://www.ateme.com/products/audio_video_...peg4encoder.pdf

But we will probably have to try the product to really know about the quality.

I wonder if that will be with help of UDF or Romeo, or both... I know it has been said that Romeo under 2000/XP isn't that great. There's a bug in win that makes anything apart from a-z and 0-9 screw file/dirnames. Just some people have reported this, others haven't. There was some discussions about this over at the CD-Mate forum, but they seem to have rinsed out older posts...
Xenno
> I wonder if that will be with help of UDF or Romeo

It should help all disk formats across the board. I had written specifically about UDF & UDF/ISO...so Ahead's quote was sort of a synopsis of their reply.

Nero 5x always screw up all my system as I have a modified CDRW drive. Very likely Nero6 will screw up as well sad.gif

Nero Digital is the result of extensive co-development by Ahead Software and one of the World leaders in video and signal processing, Ateme of France. Both the video and audio encoders will be available for download during Q2.

Does this mean that both codecs from nerodigital will be released for download completely free of charge? Or just the video codec? Or nothing at all? smile.gif

Please tell us! I want to know when the video codec is out (if it is free) so I can test it against xvid and ffvfw.

Thanks

PS - I don't suppose nerodigital will include the aac-HE codec for free too will it? biggrin.gif

From what I understand, the retail version of Nero 6 will have the Unlimited HE-AAC (mp4) encoding support. But, the following questions have not been answered:

-Will the new OEM version of Nero 6 that is bundled with drives have the Unlimited HE-AAC (mp4) encoding support?

-If I pay the 39.99 to upgrade my OEM Nero version 5.5 to Nero 6, will I get all the retail features, including Unlimited HE-AAC (mp4) encoding support?

It seems to be that there will be a different version for USA, Canada & México.
Anybody know what's the difference?
Mac
Something I thought... what happens to the people who actually paid for the AAC Encoder in Nero 5.5? Basically they paid for something they could upgrade to for free?

Makes me glad I was waiting for AAC+ anyhow, as people have said.. I can buy Nero & get a CDRW for free pretty much.. it's a silly world smile.gif

a friend somewhere told me that you could get more characters if you UNCHECKED Joilet ... anyone tried/care to try that? i've mainly been burning ISOs lately (or DVD-Rs that don't need long, long filenames)

One thing Id like to know is why the nero people keep repeating 'HE" as in 'Nero will support unlimited HE-AAC encoding'.

Does this mean LC AAC is somehow going to have limitations? I don't really care for HE-AAC since my ipod won't be able to play it and I use MPC for my backups....

Anyway for the record.. I don't need Nero since I got a CD burning program that fulfills all my needs (hehe CD burning-wise) but Id buy a standalone AAC encoder if it works properly, and has some useful batching functionality..

Do ipods support VBR LC AAC? Hmm I think they do.
