Hi
I am currently on the search for a mobile audio player with harddisk. The problem is that my audio files are in a lot of different file formats - Mp3, Ogg, Mpc, Ape and Flac - and I would prefer to be able to use these without having to convert everything to Mp3. Is there a player which is able to handle all these file formats and might even be upgradable in the future ?
Bye
No.

Not even close.
So far, the only format of the ones you listed there that has portable player support is MP3.
Ciao..
laptop.. with remote..

BTW:
what are the minimum requirements (hardwarewise)
on the various formats..
ex: is there any difference in playback resource use
mp3, mp4, mpc or lossless,

Think about a subnotebook if you want total support of any format ...
IF by "mobile" you mean a car unit, then there are a few models out. The out-of-production Empeg comes
to mind, but I know there are others. Many are Linux based, so have the potential to play any format
available on Linux.
Ciao..
this is actually one of my faw.
http://www.pjrc.com/tech/mp3/photos.htmlwith a little time & effort.. $.
it should be able to become a *multiplayer*
and more powerful.
i recall seeing one box.. made by a trucker
for the purpose for listening ogg`s ..
but i don`t have the adress..
this could easily be modified.

There was even somebody on this very forum who somehow managed to build a "portable" PC with a 640x480 display that he mounted in his minivan, which enabled him to listen to any audio format.
I managed to dig it out with the search:

Those Neuros players are getting kinda close to what you want, but don't quite handle every format you mentioned. So many you'd only have to convert/transcode some of them?
Hopefully transcoding Ape to Flac wouldn't be too big a deal.
