I have a problem with an operating facility on my Souncard Mixer.
It is a Terratec 6 Fire Lt Card. I am using Windows XP.

The Mixer Board works ok apart from the first chaneel I/P designated for CD1 and CD2 also the what I believe is the drop down box underneath the sliders marked as Record Source.
1st problem, I have not been able to get any sound level indication or have no control over my 2 CD drives using the Terratec Mixer mixer. I have several programs that I play CDs with. Winamp, WMA, Musicmatch, and Recording software players. The other day I downloaded CDEX and when Ripping a disc all of a sudden signal indication appeared in the slider channels and I could adjust the levels. Any Ideas, what method of CD playback does CDEX use which is different to all other software I have that utilises my CD drives. I have been in contact with Terratec a couple of times but they have not come back to me with any advice. The second problem with what I believe to be drop down box for record source, is that it doesn't drop down or appear to do anythig. If someone has got similar DMX card please let me know what it does when you click on it.

Thaks

It should allow you to choose between CD1/2, Line In, Phono/MIC in, Digital In & Mix.

Are you using the latest drivers?

Go to About, you should see something like:

Software: Version 1.00.00.128 (DMX6FIRE.EXE)
Interface: Version 1.03.26.128 (DMX6FIREAPI.DLL)
Driver: Version 5.00.2000.128(DMX6FIRE.SYS)

.128 is the latest.

If you are running WinXP, 2K or ME, the analog CD inputs are not used by default at all. Those OSes read Audio CD's utilising the Digital Audio Extraction method (it can be turned off, wouldn't advice it though, due to loss of quality). In that case, volume can be controlled by the player application.

Thanks for your replies, I have checked latest Drivers and they are exactly as posted. I'm a little bit puzzled by why the CD Level sliders suddenly spring to life when using CD extractor, maybe someone can explain. As for the dropdown Menu for record source it looks like my Souncard must have a fault, as when I click on mine nothing happens.

Regarding fallen Angels reply. I actually went into my 2 Drive settings and changed Digital/Analogue extraction settings, but it still didnt cure the problem, ie no CD levels shown in slider background and therefore no level control. Only way I can adjust playback levels from CD is Via Master or Wav Sliders.

That looks like a software fault, not a hardware fault. Did you try to reinstall the control panel/drivers? Did you try to select the recording source via Windows' volume control? If there's no recording sources to be selected in there, reinstall the drivers. If that doesn't help, reinstalling Windows may be neccesary.

I've just verified, that on my system, audio players don't actually care if I enable or disable digital audio extraction in the drive's properties. I have the CD input muted all the time, and still, audio cd's play without any problems (I don't have a DMX 6Fire though, but still it's a Terratec card that thinks it's an Audiotrak tongue.gif). And I don't even have an analog audio cable connected to the sound card.
As for the CD Extractor - not all apps are able to use the DAE features during playback, so they play through analog (I don't know if that's the case. However, if you could hear what's being ripped off the CD, then most likely it's analog). One of those apps was Winamp (new versions cope with DAE just fine).
