As AAC+ (AAC High Efficiency) is going to be available soon (18 july 2003) in the new nero 6 i wonder what possibilites do exist for decoding aac+?

i think the greatest chance would be faad2!? Any plans for faad2 to decode aac+ content (winamp plugin)? would be great!
JohnV
Well.. Seems that Menno himself won't put working aac+ decoding to the open source FAAD2 (because he reserves his sbr tech for the Ahead decoder), but I heard there was some other party who was looking into adding sbr support to FAAD2. Anyway, sbr support in FAAD2 is not functioning yet although there are some references in the code to sbr.

Would be really great if "the other party" could add sbr support in faad2 as i dont think that nero will release plugins for players (like winamp) or even a directshowfilter (like coreaac) sad.gif

i hope the other party is serious!?

Play them on NeroMIX. biggrin.gif

All Ahead's applications (Nero, Nero Express, NeroMIX, Wave Editor...) are perfectly able to decode (and play, if applicable) MP4 files if you have the plug-in installed.

i am already wondering why to use aac+ if there is no nice possibility to playback the content (winamp and directshow) sad.gif

I think there will be free decoders, at least available in Brazil or Russia, where these patents don't apply. wink.gif
If ViaLicensing has any common sense, it will not try to restrict decoders...

I bet AAC+ will be playable on dshow after that anonymous developer JohnV and me have been hinting about implements it on FAAD2.

Then, all you need is to adapt the CoreAAC filter to recognize it. smile.gif

I knew it since weeks ago. biggrin.gif

But Menno asked for strict secrecy, so I started creating this story of the anonymous developer...

Maybe good story, but I didn't hear it from you. wink.gif

There was indeed another project which was going to add SBR to FAAD2 (a Darmstadt university project), but it was secret also. wink.gif
And this was infact way earlier than the decicion of adding Menno's sbr code to FAAD2. Though I had missed this information.. rolleyes.gif
