Hello everybody, I've got a question for you all...

I'm buying a new soundcard for my AMD XP 2000+. I use my computer mostly to play encoded music (go MPC!) but I also use it to do simpler jobs in Cubase VST and Reason so I need a card that has ASIO drivers.

I have found two card that I'm interested in:

- Terratec DMX 6Fire
- Creative Soundblaster Audigy 2 Platinum

They both cost about $300 at my local dealer.

Does anyone have experience from one/both of these cards? Which should I go for?

Any help would be great! Thank you!

The Audigy2 is a good gamer card, but that's about it. The 6fire should suit you well. For a comparison of some soundcards, including ASIO latencies, read this thread.

If you aren't going to play games at all, DMX 6fire will be excellent card (much better than Audigy2).
If you are going to play games, don't go for it (Sensaura3D causes crackling in some games and sounds awful in other ones).

Just bumped into this one reviewing the Audigy2 eX and comparing it to the Terratec. The author claims that the Audigy2 eX handled 24bit recording from an LP better than the DMX blink.gif. Read on!
