Full Version: Concerning the q=0 switch in LAME
Hydrogenaudio Forums > Lossy Audio Compression > MP3 > MP3 - General
Mike Giacomelli
The LAME documentation states that q=0 is highest quality and q=2 is merely recommended. In a recent thread I saw more people recommended commandline settings invloving q=0 then all of the presets combined. Maybe 3.94 could have a simple warning included that it should not be used except for testing purposes?

If thats not acceptable something should be done. Its not fair to expect people to search out an obscure post by Takehiro stating that the manual is wrong and q0 is broken.

Thanks.

I'd suggest you to just use presets.

q0 has been broken in the past. Now it is corrected (3.93.1 an upper), so there is no need to change documentation about it. But if you just use the presets (as it is recommended in the html doc provided with Lame), you do not have to ask yourself such questions.
